Anyone else going to wait for 5D Mark V

Another spin on the customer. The masses are using cell phones today for pictures. The faithful shooters have been using the DSLR for years. There is a higher probability on the upgrade they will have a larger customer base for the DSLR purchase then someone looking to buy into the Mirrorless. I will not buy into the new platform. I would probably purchase a 5D5 based on a price right and new features to make it worth while.
believe me you are not the only one, Maverick, there are 100s of 1000s like you that are disillusioned with this new format. i can see that there were some technical impasses with dslr format but it wasn't some thing terminal, most could do without it. so you never know, canon may wake up to the fact to understand there is a wide base who desire upgrade to their reliable dslrs and would be very happy and positive if canon makes an effort to respond to their desire ;-)

as I said in a previous post.. Mirrorless-- all a marketing gimmick .. yet another money-maker .. as for me the R series have no GPS.. EVF--ugh.. I still have my old SX50 with it-- double ugh.. I have no need for video let alone 8k as I do not shoot video but every once in a blue moon and use my Note 9 for that.. why get all hung up with a new camera format since my DSLR's are doing just fine.. but I guess that's just me .. I'm still holding out hope for a 7dMkIII or if I really go wild hoping-- maybe a 5dMkV.. I'll settle for the 7dMkIII .. maybe if I say that enuff Canon will hear it :) :)

I am a purist though. I was against the idea of Canon adding the movie function. I bought a camera to take pict not record video. I am not sure if I ever pursued video on the 7DII or 5D3. When there is a something added then there is something lost. My audio gear is separates as well. No I will wait until they release a 5D5. If that does not come to fruition in the next couple years I will look elsewhere.

I hope you realize that if there is a 5DV, it will have a movie function ;-)

More FPS - 10 would be great.

+1 also from Canon rumor today. I would think there may be one more prosumer DSLR just to tie things over. i really hope I like the current EVFs...

Came close this morning to jumping on the 5R. Spent about an hour calculating sale price for my Mark III and a few lenses. Fortunately common sense eventually prevailed. I tried the RP and although a nice camera I just could not get used to the “small” form factor. I really like size and feel of a dslr. So patiently going to wait till 4th quarter and hope some announcement from Canon for a Mark V. Happy shooting everyone.
This isn’t definitive but as I’ve been observing in the camera industry’s contraction they are focusing on the most profitable sectors.

On the flip side, it may preserve what little value is left in this highly capable dslr which still holds its own in 2020.

Then why not take the sensor of the 5R, use parts of the AF of the 1DXIII, put it in the 5DIV body that has proven itself and you have a 5DV at very low costs.

You have a group of buyers waiting for a 5DV, easy as that.

  • I am perfectly content with my 5D4 and would be in no rush to replace it.
  • I will wait for the 5D5 and possibly purchase it, but not until at least a year after its introduction and its first permanent price reduction.
  • My guess is that you'll have to wait a lot longer than Q4 2020 to see a 5D5. A debut in the fall of 2022 could be more likely. That means I wouldn't buy one until 2023 or 2024.
  • I will not buy an R5, because I believe the series has at least one more iteration to go before it reaches total maturity. That means possibly another two or three years down the road. I have no facts regarding this, only utter speculation and wild guesswork. Can you say "R5 Mark II?"
  • I'm not replacing my EF glass, so I don't really see much of a benefit in going to a smaller body, other than the higher MP resolution.
Your bullet #4 is just incorrect. What you see in the r5 was perfected in the 1DX3 and it actually an iteration beyond that camera since it now gives you coverage 100% in both directions. The r5 and r6 are fully mature cameras as much as the 5D4 was and will ever be. I certainly am not replacing my EF glass either, but Canon is not even trying to force that on us. If you add the grip to the r5/r6, it will be close enough in size to the 5D4 that there is just no missing it. I see the higher resolution, the higher fps, the eye and face tracking for animals and people to be huge benefits over what all the DSLRs have now. IBIS will make video through the VF a real thing. It is just miles ahead and DSLRs are practically dead. While have said many times that I would love to see a 7D3 show up, I am now doubting that will happen because Canon will soon be leading the market in the ML area and there will be little reason to keep in making DSLRs since they are so far behind ML in capability.
DSLRs are pratically dead?

What about the recently introduced 1DX3?

Built for professional photographers for a reason.

I will be holding out for a 5DV.

I already have an EOS R that I rarely use, so I don't see myself moving away from my 5D4 anytime soon.

Yes sir, very well, with all due respect, hold on, you may be the last of the Mohicans in 10 years time. You can't stop the latest technological developments. But hang on, wait for the five.

Jozef.

Canon rumours says they may not produce one.

i agree with mclaren777! in fact i didn't even have to wait for 5Dmk4, i went ahead and acquired a 5DsR (at a great price) and having a wonderful time with it. i use mine for landscape. birding-wild life, and portrait, i couldn't be happier. i thought about the hype and decided against R5 at this time.

Yes, congrats, that is a very nice camera!
But what you do is different, you live in the present, and that's a lot different than waiting for a camera that will probably never come.

This is true. Myself included, i spend so much time reading about tech and equipment and things and the all important, Route forward! But really....you don’t plan your tv Route, or Car Route! I know lens ecosystems are important, but really, any gear these days can do very nice things.

I keep telling myself to log off and go outside with my camera haha. But i love a gadget, no matter how much I try and avoid it.

For once at least, my recent posts are about shots I’ve been missing and whether I would benefit for different gear, so shot induced. But cameras take pictures or video! It’s not going to immediately stop working is it just as a new models released. Professionals used to make great things with much less gear than the average joe now has. I keep telling myself this - but still love the rumour sites.......

I believe Canon is going to do just that. But at this moment they don't want 5D users to wait for next DSLR. They want them to buy R5 and those rumours are part of that,
