Welcome to The Weekly Image Thread

This thread will appear every Saturday (GMT) and is open for submissions and discussions about images and processing techniques until the next Saturday, or the new thread is started. If the thread is nearing full before the next Saturday, I may start a new thread and carry on until it fills or the next Saturday arrives and it is reasonably full in which case I will start another. Confused, so am I! From time to time the start could be delayed if I am unavailable.

Although this Weekly thread is in the Olympus SLR forum, we openly welcome users of all brands and models.

Please:

  1. Reply to this post and change the TITLE!
  2. Please reply to at least one other contribution, your replies encourage posters!!!
  3. If asked, please share your processing techniques or technical details.
  4. Please show the EXIF if possible. Please identify the lens used regardless of which camera was used to take the image. This helps people form opinions of the lens used with the body to possibly influence future acquisitions.
  5. If special lighting was used to create your image stating what was done may help others.
Thanks for joining and contributing this week.

Happy 4th of July to our U.S. friends!

Nothing much happening in these parts. It is supposed to be nice today so we will take out the rag top and make a small road trip for a short visit with some relatives.

I mentioned to Rich the other day that the flowers posted here this year are especially nice. This is certainly true of the ones you post. The roses are beautiful to be sure.

Enjoy your Sunday.

From the vintage races Saturday. Fun as long as nobody is hurt. Nice of him to do that right in front of me. He did a "540". You can see he has a camera mounted. I'd like to see the video. Maybe he will pay me to delete these. Too late. They will be published in "The Vintage Drift."

Party roses Andrew. Beautiful

Not sure what all the celebrations are about...a rebellion against their rightful monarch ;-)

Certainly all action stuff. Very impressive. Glad I wasn't in the car

rain and thunderstorms. easily the heaviest rainstorm I have ever seen in belge. we narrowly averted disaster in the cellar as the drains couldn't cope and we had the beginnings of a flood...fortunately swmbo and myself managed to barricade the water and then the pumps managed to catch up...just

before that there was 10 minutes of clear weather

Thank heavens I'm going to live on the upper floor! :-D

I like the nigella thing. Is that the plant that the spice nigella comes from? I discovered that spice just the other year. It's very special.

That's the fellas

Those cars are fast and very dangerous. They are light, fragile and can reach 120MPH. If two cars touch wheels one of them flips over because they are turning in opposite directions. There is almost no protection. We lost a driver two years ago. He ran off the end of a straightaway and flipped over. If this car hit the tire wall hard broadside it would have at a minimum broken the suspension and knocked the wheels off. If it nosed in the driver's feet would have been in his face. Backing into the wall is safest because the motor and transaxle are behind you. I spun a car on the track. It's alarming but for racers who are used to it, not so bad unless they hit another car or a wall.

And you grow them - wow. I thought it was tropical. I think it's really good with meat, like in a pot.

A couple weekend ago we went early to take our walk along the Tennessee River. My friend was waiting and as I've often advised the best way to take pictures of birds is to get close …

We saw him as we drove in. I parked the car just above and beyond him, walked down to that rock which was about 15 feet away and then he walked over toward me not letting my presence interfere with the breakfast that he was stalking.

This was taken at 35mm with very little crop .. I did get a few pictures of him at breakfast but we'll have to save those for another day.. I took a few pictures and since we were here for a walk we left him to finish his meal alone …. But first I turned and said hello to those four persistent geese that I meet all over the marina ..

Being summer and warm or maybe a bit hot even in the morning a good kayak ride on the river is certainly warranted and desirable . …

This is a small river that empties into the Tennessee several yards from here. …. and along this river we met a few swallows …. one left ...

While the mZD12-100mm lens is fine for a friendly heron, it's not really that great for these tiny swallows that are a bit more skittish any day …. and if irritated will attack …. but not this warm morning as we continue to the Tennessee and the fishermen under the bridge ..

I took a few more but not as interesting as the heron which we'll get back to on another day ..

WhyNot

Today we went for another walk along the Tennessee but not much happening for a 4th even our friend took the day off and wasn't having breakfast at the usual location …. A few similar pictures but not yet processed .. I am busy learning to use Affinity and not doing a lot of photography, just catching up on all pp that was lost with the crash. …

I'm surprised the heron let him get that close.

I'm surprised the heron let him get that close.
Sorry, I may have been a bit ambiguous ... my "friend" is that heron and the person seated on the rock is me and my wife took that one photograph. .. There are four heron ,maybe a couple more, that are resident at the marina on the Tennessee River where we go walking frequently ... mostly they prefer that we stay a bit further away and prefer that we not be above them .. But I find that if you spend time becoming part of there environment and happen to know what rock they prefer to fish from I can easily get within 20 feet from most heron ... This particular one is quite familiar at the marina and even has a couple names (I've heard but don't remember) ,,.. he will fish with the other fisherman ....

2dfa68ba2aef4488a78e8bf4aea7b0ea.jpg

and often gets thrown those fish that the these other fishermen find to be too small to be keepers. This morning while I watched the heron he caught a keeper himself and I have the pictures for some time later ...

Thanks for stopping by

Very nice, Andrew .... You and Rich are raising the level of these flower portraits ....

Stay well ...

WhyNot

Well I am glad to hear that you avoided disaster Rich. Do you have a supply of sand bags on hand for such purposes? Pumpsssss .... how many pumps do you have? These are sump pumps? Perhaps a higher capacity unit would be in order. Pump it all to your neighbour's yard! Perhaps not. :-(

At least you got some garden shots. Where are the shots of the ark under construction?

Andrew

I too liked that first nigella ... interesting sequence ....
