Stuck in DMF

I've had the AF/MF Toggle for the right button set. Yesterday when in the field I may have accidently pressed the toggle and was confused as to why it was manually focusing in "S", so i turned it off and on which set it back to auto focusing. Today I pressed the toggle a few times after remembering I had it set, and now no matter what the focus mode dial is set to, its in DMF, or MF when the dial is set to "MF". I deactivated the AF/MF toggle hoping it would fix it but it won't. I am stuck in DMF or MF. If i reactivate the toggle, the display will toggle between af-s or mf when the dial is set to anything BUT "S" which only shows dmf or mf. It is now impossible to use AFC and i have to have the toggle activated to even use "S". What the hell conundrum did this camera just get itself into?

If the little dial that selects all the focus modes is possibly malfunctioning, they didn't even include the ability to set the focus mode via the menu? TLDRL: stuck in DMF or MF normally. If I set the AF/MF toggle on, it will use either MF or AF-S (AFS only when the dial is set to MF), so now i'm completely locked out of AF-C as well as having to have a weird setup where if i want any autofocus at all i have to have the dial to MF and have it toggled to AF.

which model has the problem?

have you tried putting the dials into 'normal' or 'default' and doing a full reset in the menu?

Rx10 IV. Sorry it appears I deleted that when editing the OP. And now I don't see an option to edit the OP while on the phone. I have not tried a factory reset as I'd rather not lose my custom settings but it's definitely an option soon as I am quite stressed about this.

I tried factory reset which did nothing. Interestingly the camera selects AF-C if the dial is set to other functions, however most are stuck with DMF when the focus dial is set to anything but MF, and I use only Aperture Priority. I have decided to send the camera in to Sony for repair, 5 months after purchase. Very bad showing on Sony's part!

My Sony RX10 iv is also stuck in DMF mode no matter where I put the toggle switch. I cannot therefore enable the lock on flexible spot function which I use most of the time, to capture birds in flight. How did you resolve your issue please. Thanks.

I sent the camera to Sony which had it repaired for free due to being only 6 months into the 1 year warranty

Curious if you ever used the shortcut setting to make switching focus modes easier with the use of a custom button? I feel mine had the issue occur after using that setting and have since abandoned trying it again.

I'm glad it is resolved. It's hard to have confidence after experiencing unique mysteries, unexplained failures.

I use my Fn Button 12 item Menu for settings I change frequently, and always have these 3 adjacent to each other:

Focus Mode; Focus Area Size; and Metering Area Size.

Fn Button is the KEY to using any RX Camera

next, I set up AF/MF Toggle on my rear right rocker

No I never assigned a shortcut button, I mostly had the switch set to the C position for focusing with the lock on facility. I would then switch it to the A position if I required spot focusing. I've had the camera about two years so I'm presuming that the switch has worn out. I always thought that it was a weak spot and would wear out eventually but i had hoped it would last longer than that. I was planning to get a Sony mirrorless as my next camera, but not now, I'll look for something else. Thanks for your reply. Daz.
