Someone stated you could get three 4 x 6 on an 8 1/2 X 11 sheet. What software lets you make that arrangement?--RonA

If your printer will support a large enough print area on an
8.5x11 sheet of paper, you can print three 4x6's. In the
case of the s800, the maximum width is 7.99. You can
get three almost 4x6's, but not three full sized images on a
page.

Thanks, I bought PS Elements and was a bit suprised multiple photos
on a page wasn't an option. Appreciate the info.
It is in Paintshop Pro 6 and 7, but if you own Elements, I'd look at Qimage. It handles all the resizing and resampling (see several threads concerning this). whereas in the others, you must do the resizing/resampling manually.

that noone is using Canon Photorecord which is the printing software that come free with my Canon G1. It let you put photo anywhere on the page, allow you to resize to anything you want, rotate, put on a frame etc etc.

Have I missed something here ?

I have the Canon 8200 where the printable area of the narrow side of an 8.5 X 11 inch sheet is 7.99. In actual use this is not noticable when putting two 4 X 6 next to each other and then a third 4 x 6 below running the other way. In PhotoShop LE 5 you have to do it manually by pasting the already sized photos on to a new file with a transparent background. But...that is fewer dollars than additional software. I suspect that you could do the same with other software such as PhotoShop Elements.

If you use 6x4 then you have to crop your original photo with most digicams giving an aspect ratio of 4:3, so I use Qimage to get four pics per page using 3.99x5.33. Saves wasting paper and uses the whole original photo.

How many can you get if you used A3 paper with edge-to-edge? I'm asking because the S9000 is due out and I'm trying to find a good reason to get one. :) Perhaps if I can squeak out 1 or 2 more 4X6's...

FYI, I plan on doing mostly 4X6's but it would be nice to have the option for something bigger. This is the sole reason I'm opting for an inkjet over the dye-subs.

Thanks,

Dave

Photorecord has two modes: fixed and album. In fixed mode, it will place two 4x6 photos on a page. The prints are "fixed" in size and there are no fancy borders. In album mode, it will automatically size your photos and you can place as many as you want. The problem is that you're never really sure if you're sizing your photos correctly, and it's difficult to place photos on a page. It's not hard if you're only dealing with three photos, but try printing 10 or 20 pages of 4x6 photos, each one having to be hand placed and sized.

I use Photoshop 6.01 and two 4X6 side by side. I then flip it over and get 1 more 6X4. I then use the 2X4 (or so) scrap to print wallets, business cards, or just to test coloring.

That is correct and open up a complete new way to print, instead of just 4x6 I have now used it in better way, I print each page with a chosen theme, one big photo and several small one to support or less important photo. Whereas in the past with film one get back identical prints of every subjects, some more interesting that other and some ... bad ones. Now I print with "theme" in mind, digital photohgraphy has open up a new way of viewing things and what do we do? we try hard to reproduce what was dictated to us previously by confining technology !

Not a box for me to preach anything, just say what I think.

In fact it is such a waste to print just two 4x4 on the expensive paper, if you must have 4x6 then buy an EPson with the roll capacity, these just churn out 4x6 all the time from a roll and it is very convenient to mimic what the processing house has been forcing you to accept.

Or do something different ??

also try ThumbsPlus http://www.thumbs.com has alot og great features...can create web pages and print almost any configuration on 8x5x11 paper. I use it to print wallet-sized proofs on a proof sheet...12 per page. Will automatically rotate all prints to fit 12 to a page, for example. Price was about $75.00 as I recall. Great product for professional photographers wanting to sell digital photos.--Jim DeLucoDeLuco Photography http://www.delucophoto.com
