The iPhone XS Max is an updated and larger version of the X, with a new "Super Retina" edge-to-edge 6.5" OLED screen and a few key updates under the hood. The dual-camera module appears on the surface to be the same – it's still a dual-stabilized 12MP F1.8 wide / 12MP F2.4 tele combo – but the sensor behind the wide-angle lens is a new one with larger pixels (1.4 µm, up from 1.22 µm).
A new A12 Bionic chip is on board with an 8-core Neural Engine, working in conjunction with an Image Signal Processor to improve bokeh in Portrait Mode. Photos taken in Portrait Mode now offer adjustable depth-of-field after capture, and a new Smart HDR mode leans on the new, faster processor to analyze data from multiple interframes and merge them into an optimized final image.
Other updates include an improved IP68 water resistance rating and boosted battery life, with storage options up to 512GB.
