Hi Stever,

Yeah lots of people here used to have a problem with Americans and english speaking Canadians...but that was 20 years ago with the big campaing about seperating us Quebecers from the rest of Canada and tempers where flaring up (I was 8 years old at the time so I remember a bit) but now, you would probably be really surprised how people have changed. I was raised to accept everybody (sex, races, language) as an equal so we learned english wile we were young in my family (I'm native french). I think that maybe older Quebecers (around 40 and up) are most likely to be pro Quebecers, we younger people, I think, are more open. You know, Quebec is a wonderfull province, I invite you to come and visit sometime, I'm sure you would find that people have changed. If you ever come, let me know, I'll gladly point out nice areas to visit, and I'll invite you and your wife over for cofee :-)

I do a ton if internet gaming and have come to find the nicest
folks (online) are Aussies followed by you Canadians. I have also
been to Sherbrooke (20 years ago) and found the people there to
really have a huge dislike towards Americans (or anyone english
speaking).

Just my thoughts, but I am in no hurry whatsoever to get back to
Quebec anytime soon! The rest of Canada, my wife and I are
seriously thinking of moving to Canada from the States.

Stever
Do you like the region around here?...plenty of photogenics scenery
:-)

Joel
My mother and sister live in Rock Forest....what a small world it
is after all. I guess you wife as family there. Where exactly in
Rock Forest do you go?

Joel

Thanks Stever. I was a bit concerned when I saw a response to my post -- I was expecting "What exit?" :-)

Hello,

I'm from Brussels, Belgium (Europe) and consulting regulary this forum which I like very much.
Since 2 months, I'm owner of a S75 and very happy with it.

Greetings,

Hi All,

Im a newbie here and I will try to look through all the threads before I swamp you all with repeat questions. I use a Sony S70 and am mostly into landscapes/flora/fauna typ pics. I am far from being a pro at photography but I am gaining confidence each time I go out.

Oh yea, heheh I am from Washington State, in the beautiful Columbia River Gorge. Anyways, I hope to share and learn from you all.

And the cubs are up 3 to 0 in the 3rd vs. San Diego. if anyone cares...
I know my latest questions have turned more to the philosophical
than the technical but that's how I understand what I'm dealing
with. The last thread about forum user backgrounds built pictures
in my mind that a digital camera will never be able to do (I hope).
My apologies to those who think these types of questions are
intrusive, boring or sappy.

That said, I have part two:

Where is everyone from? I know the majority are American here but
what parts? I'm Canadian born and raised from parents who came from
Holland. I have lived in the Ottawa (the capital for those who
think it's Toronto - why wouldn't you think that!) area for my
whole life except for some shorter stints in Vancouver and Europe.
I have been all over the US a few times but there are many places
that I still have yet to see. If you're willing, let us know what
country and city you're from.

Regards,
Andrew

Yea another Idahoan I'm in Meridiean ID. Born in Boise. It's not as neat as some of the places others are at but hey picture taking is fun anywhere.

BTW I think this thread is a good idea this way we Kind of know where people are from and why we post at certain times due to time zones.
I was born in Portland Oregon, and was raised in North Idaho. I
live less that 100 miles South of the Canadian border.

First Joel's answer:

Yes I love the Eastern Townships and it is indeed a beautiful area. I have to get up to the top or Mount Orford soon for a good panorama!

Stever,
About the attitude in Quebec:

I grew up as english speaking in an Irish region of a french speaking province while having dutch speaking parents. Other than the stupid kid things that happen to everyone, I have never had an issue with French people. In fact my wife is French and I prefer Quebec over all others in Canada mainly because of the people, and huge abundance of wilderness.

I have to admit that I used to have an attitude towards Americans mainly because they knew nothing about Canada. I have long since realized that the reason for this lack of knowledge is that you guys have enough information in your own country to deal with so why would you know much about us. Plus we are inundated with American TV so can't help but know alot about the U.S.

Just to clarify about where I live; I said Ottawa when in fact I live just north of Ottawa in Quebec. Ottawa is in Ontario but right on the border of Quebec.

Also Stever, if you want any more info about what it's like to live here, please ask. There are many areas to choose from!

Regards,
AVB

I added my name to Curt's list—great job, Curt—but I thought I'd give you the narrative, too.

Born in a log cabin in the wilds of... No, no. Let's start again.

Born and raised in Detroit, Michigan. Took me 33 years to get fed up and wise up and get up and go. Had to be a place without snow, sleet and mizzable weather in general. (Nothing wrong with Michigan weather if you like cloudy. Cloudy and cold, cloudy and hot, cloudy and humid, cloudy and raining, cloudy and snowing, cloudy and sleeting. When it wasn't cloudy it was 95 degrees with 100% humidity, or 33 below zero wind chill.) There was one good thing about living in Detroit, though. Unfortunately, now that I'm old and quickly getting senile I forget what it was.

After exploring Florida and finding not enough paved roads and too much sunburn on the napes of the locals I fled to Californey (the place you oughtta be) and spent the 20 best years of my life in the City of St. Francis.

All good things must come to an end, particularly when I was unwilling to continue slopping at the public trough until I was eligible for Social Security. So late last year I opted for an early vested retirement.

This meant, of course, that we couldn't continue to afford to live in The City. Fortunately for us the Dot Snots hadn't yet sneezed themselved to death in a coked up frenzy so real estate prices were flying high. People were waving money under our nose and begging for our little Haight-Ashbury hovel.

The high of becoming an instant milllionaire wore off all too quickly as Simon Legree at the mortgage company insisted on getting his cut. (But it was a thrill seeing all those commas on the paperwork.)

Walking away firmly ensconced in the middle-class, there was nothing to do but drag ourselves to live near the in-laws in one of the cheapest places we could find and still stay in the good ol' US of A.

We moved to L.A. (Lower Alabama) where, if the good Lord's willing and the creek don't rise, we'll putter about in our declining years and hope that civilization might find us.
