***DPReview Shutdown Threads***

It makes me sad to see dpreview go away. I haven't posted in years but I do drop in every now and then.

Wow!!!

I just left Pentax, and I want to express my gratitude all of you for helping my journey. So, So many great people -- RON, MIGHTY MIKE, and on and on. Hope you all find a great landing spot. You are a great bunch.

John
Those are my sentiments as well. I switched to Sony E mount a few years ago after a decade of shooting Pentax. I learned a lot in this forum and just wanted to come back and say thanks to all for being a great community!

Some of the best posters on this forum (and surely other forums) are now deceased. Deleting the archives is quite disrespectful. We ought to bump the best threads and goodbyes before the lights go out as a toast.

I won't be buying photo gear from Amazon in the future. I may reset my Pentax forums password as I haven't logged in there in years, but there were other forums I went to here and I shoot Fuji just as much as Pentax.

https://cameraderie.org/forums/ has a Pentax camera section. Do check it out as it could become a great place for continuing Pentax talks, etc.

I hope to get a new Pentax KF one of these days to replace my ailing K50.

Thanks for all the great discussions we have had over the years. It will be missed.

Woah! I did not see this coming!

this is very sad, for employees but also for the ton of people that has contributted to the vault of knowledge that compounds the forums.

One of the very few sites i read, aside from tech stuff related to my job, so sad.

I would have ever imagined this.

Goodbye to my old friends from way back when! and thanks dpreview for this forum that served us so well for so long!

totally agree, in all regards, there is wisdom in the forums, tons of work... erased just like that?!!!

the possibility to navigate through the different forums categories, is a fantastic feature and i'm not sure there is any other place on the web like this.

Also for me owning camera gear will no longer be as fun without dpr. I love the gear aspect as much as taking pics. Even if lately I just read people's posts and looked at pics. Been here for 16 years so much fun. I am going to post a lot before April 10th ;-)

I have been mostly a silent reader of the dpreview forums, sharing a few images of mine here and there. Almost every gear purchase I made was after reading the thorough reviews at dpreview. Browsing these forums and reading views and opinions have always been half the fun of photography for me. I guess all good things must come to an end.

I am also a member of Pentaxforums but the content there is too brand specific with accompanying user bias. The balanced views of the truly knowledgeable and experienced members and the methodical and highly objective gear reviews will be sorely missed. For photography and photographic gear lovers there is nothing quite like dpr anywhere else!

Regards,

Sagnik

Haven't posted here for years I think, but it is sad to see such a great resource go away. It was feared it would go this course when Amazon took over. Things did change then, but in a way it is a surprise that it lasted as long as it did.

As many here, my history with DPR started when I was looking into my first DSLR after having photographed with Pentax SLRs for 15 years. In my case that was in 2004. The *istD was too expensive for me back then, but I was reluctant to change brands. Thanks to the first rumours of the coming *istDS that I read here, I waited and have been shooting Pentax since. We had a few fun international Pentaxians meetings in Paris and London in those days.

I did leave when things turned sour and the forum got infested with negativity for a while. I gather that cleared out, but I never came back, unless in search for specific information. The decreasing coverage of Pentax/Ricoh didn't help though. I found a new home at pentaxforums, even if I don't post there much of late either... Most info is there and the community is a good one.

Still... sad to see this go... the end of an era...

grtz, Wim

Very sad news, by everyone, guess I'll go to PF
Guess I'll see you there.

It's odd reading down this thread seeing names I've known for 10, 15 years. People I've never met face to face, whose voices I've never heard. This community. It just seems like utter vandalism to break it up. It's strange feel as upset as I feel over a web site - because it's not the web site that goes.

To meet and discuss as a pentaxians.
I have never, and will never, sign up for Facebook.
Ditto.
I signed up on FB long time ago, but I use it as I thought it was made for initially: there's no one in my contacts that I don't personally know, friend or family or somehow close related.

So to me it's just like a shared whiteboard, where I can see things about friends or family I would sometimes prefer not to know :-D

I realize I don't go there much anyway ... But I prefer to stay away from any association, group, community, inside Facebook. I'm on Twitter, I read enough trolls for my taste already :-D

Ouch this is a terrible news. Last month, I searched where Barney Britton, the famous DPR editor, has gone to? I sensed something is not right with this company owned by Amazon .

Now we see this news. DPR should be sold to Elon Musk. Lets make a petition to keep the site alive.

Hmmm.... I wonder if they will get the K3-III review done before they shut down?
At least no new Pentax cameras will get to be ignored on this site!

I joined in 2007, and learned so much and enjoyed the people so much. I am sad, really sad and surprised.
Also a member since 2007 in various guises.

It is very sad . `will be missing lot of good friends .

Regards ,

mrp .
