Welcome to the Weekly Image Thread!

This thread will appear every Saturday (GMT). If the thread is nearing full before the next Saturday, I may start a new thread and carry on until it fills or the next Saturday arrives and it is reasonably full in which case I will start another. Confused, so am I! From time to time the start could be delayed if I am unavailable.

Although this Weekly thread is in the Olympus SLR forum, we openly welcome users of all brands and models.

Please:

  1. Reply to this post and change the TITLE!
  2. Please reply to at least one other contribution, your replies encourage posters!!!
  3. If asked, please share your processing techniques or technical details.
  4. Please show the EXIF if possible. Please identify the lens used regardless of which camera was used to take the image. This helps people form opinions of the lens used with the body to possibly influence future acquisitions.
  5. If special lighting was used to create your image stating what was done may help others.
Thanks for joining and contributing this week.

If you post a pano that is on its own and not part of set of images feel free to post it as a reply to this post. I will not always have one ready so don't wait for me to post one before you!

Andrew

I have been busy the past couple of days and little time to spend here. Today, medical appointment in Hamilton early this morning, Costco, pick the grandson and take him to his girlfriends, go back to Simcoe and go out with the 3 year old for Trick or Treat.

So, yeah, not here!

To Chris, a nice set. I was down on the shore of Lake Erie at Port Dover that afternoon. I had a camera with me but not the right lens. I did not expect to see kite surfers out on the water and in the air but they were there! I wished I had the 100 - 400 with me but I did not so I watched for a while but no images! 22 C still here at 7:30 p.m. today! Amazing!

For Nick10, welcome to the thread Nick as I don't think I have seen a post from you here before, but hey, I am old so I may have forgotten! A lovely night image and scene. If you live near there I would say you are fortunate! If not, you had a great visit!

For Jim, a nice shot through the window! I should clean ours again in case it gets cold at some point in time. I don't think I have seen that sparrow here but they all look a lot alike to me so I could have missed it!

A few from my yard. The Red Breasted Woodpecker is here to greet us ...

Others just tolerate us ..

Going on his way ....

The reason I didn't title this "Resident Birds " is this intruder who sent the birds away while he explored ways to get to the feeders!!!

He spent an hour or so exploring the various branches of this small tree to see any would support his launch to the feeders .....

He also kept an eye on me from behind the leaves to see if I would object .. But I let him explore and I guess he gave up as I haven't seen him on the feeder yet .. If he makes it I'll have to trim that tree back a bit ...

More of these resident birds later ...

The shot of the cardinal is so great…..up north seems there are a lot of very nice and colorful bids but seems so tamed…..I mean let you get closer, even the squirrel… here the closest that I was to a squirrel was about 30 feet away……

A really excellent set of images WN. Your residents seem very happy in their surroundings.

It's so wet and miserable here this morning that the birds aren't leaving their shelter.

I'll just sit here and admire your residents if that's okay.😊

Nice set of images Roy. I like your friend. Much more colourful than any visitors to our garden.

Dave

A lovely set! I especially like the one of what appears to be some sort of flowering moss on the bark of a tree (I'm a sucker for anything tiny!)

I think I've mentioned this before, I also enjoy seeing tillandsias in the wild, the plant on the branch just before the birds start, as they are only found in baskets here 😸. I of course mean for sale at garden centers. I have purchased several over the years, but just don't have the knack for keeping them alive 😿.

One of your friends seems to have forgotten to wear his blue jacket!

A good set Roy. Your friends look like they are looking for a 'hand out'! Show me the food!! The second is very good! The yellow flowers look like ones we get on squash or zucchini plants.

Andrew

A well done set WN. I like the birds. We do not get many squirrels that are successful at getting to the feeders but racoons continue to be an issue on occasion. When they get too successful then I have to bring the feeders in at night for a week or so before leaving them out 24 h s again. That usually works.

Andrew

It is fig leaf squash….Chilacayote….we made sort of candy treat out of it…..

Thanks Lynne…..about the plant they received their nourishment…is that the word.?, ….out of the air, so if you put ir inside of the house has to be without air condition…why? Douse the filters on them…..and the humidity control….i learn that and only that from a gardener….

Thanks…..try for something different but always came back with kind of same….

And with much exigencies….lthey wait for the leftovers from Pistachio…..but nice to having them around for photo opportunities

Thank you, Roy ....

I thought the colorful birds were down your way .... There are SOME urban birds that are very friendly but I usually try to discourage those that are too friendly from trusting humans ....
…..I mean let you get closer, even the squirrel… here the closest that I was to a squirrel was about 30 feet away……
With these portrait type shots I usually work close .. but it involves investing time with the birds to let them become familiar with and comfortable with my presence and that of the camera ... It takes an investment of time but I have reached an age when I can afford it ...

Thank you Dave .... These residents and their ancestors have lived here for decades and apparently don't want to move ....

Today we are having our first rain in alost a month ....
I'll just sit here and admire your residents if that's okay.😊
Glad to have you join me ... We'll open the files and trade memories ... I'll keep the coffee brewing ....

We occasionally have a racoon, possum, skunk, or armadillo but the city is growing and visits have become rarer .. The neighbor took down the pecan tree and many squirrels seem to have migrated to better neighborhoods!! ,,, But squirrels are very clever and smart and it is very difficult to defeat their desires if they get determined .. this one was young and will probably be back to reconsider his options ...
