Welcome to the Weekly Image Thread!

This thread will appear every Saturday (GMT). If the thread is nearing full before the next Saturday, I may start a new thread and carry on until it fills or the next Saturday arrives and it is reasonably full in which case I will start another. Confused, so am I! From time to time the start could be delayed if I am unavailable.

Although this Weekly thread is in the Olympus SLR forum, we openly welcome users of all brands and models.

Please:

  1. Reply to this post and change the TITLE!
  2. Please reply to at least one other contribution, your replies encourage posters!!!
  3. If asked, please share your processing techniques or technical details.
  4. Please show the EXIF if possible. Please identify the lens used regardless of which camera was used to take the image. This helps people form opinions of the lens used with the body to possibly influence future acquisitions.
  5. If special lighting was used to create your image stating what was done may help others.
Thanks for joining and contributing this week.

If you post a pano that is on its own and not part of set of images feel free to post it as a reply to this post. I will not always have one ready so don't wait for me to post one before you!

Still have been nowhere so it is all I have. We will go grocery shopping later this morning. If I hold onto the cart, sort of elbows on the handles and hands out further, then I can walk around the store now with no real issues or prices to be paid later. I guess that means I could likely walk a distance on a paved path with the use of a walker and not be in significant pain afterward. Before I try this I will raise the handles on the walker we have (I had to buy a couple for my wife to use following the last two knee surgeries). We also have a wheelchair and I could get pushed or wheel myself about. The RBG have four garden areas plus trails. Only one is flat. One has nice paved trails but is downhill to get to the areas of interest and uphill to get out. I don't think I could make it up the hill yet. Thus we have not renewed our memberships there this year as it seems unlikely that I could manage, or at least unknown. Yesterday I walked to the road and back unassisted and a bit around the front of the property. I have not been using the walker in the house now for a while and have managed to stand upright for 45 min or so without undo harm. So, overall things are moving in a better direction. Somewhere down the road this will end either with a wheelchair or surgery which currently does not often end well so again likely a wheelchair.

Life in a barka lounge or sitting in front of a computer is getting rather boring. That said, many former colleagues of mine have passed on, some twenty five years ago. My brother in law, likely 8 years younger than I am is paralyzed now and unable to anything of consequence. Others I know about the same age as myself are also in worse shape. I am fortunate in comparison to many that I know or have known so I am not complaining. Overall, life has been good to me and I have no complaints.

I am still hoping to be able to get away for a holiday trip later this summer. With some luck it will happen.

I have provided the above information just to keep you informed of where I am currently at. Other than the back I am in fine medical condition to the best of my knowledge, it just limits my ability to travel and do things different from my usual everyday experiences.

So, I will stop running on and get to the flowers! We hired out some more gardening and they will be back to do more. The front garden is now cleaned out nicely but these images were taken before that work was done so there may be weeds or other things in the images as well.

Please, I am not fishing for well wishes or the like, the above was provided as information only and comments on it are not necessary but comments on the images are always welcome, whether yea or nay!

Andrew

Edit: If anyone knows about a program that is free or cheap that can be easily used to create photo collages I would appreciate a tip! My wife is trying to lay out quilt pieces to get a design of her liking. The usual method of doing this is to lay them out on a 'Design Wall'. My idea is to take images of the pieces and move them about on the screen instead. Photoshop can do it but I would have to subscribe. I may go that way in any case. So if any of you have ideas about this, please share!!!! The quilt will be large and will not fit on the design wall she has and the living room (the floor was used as it was large) is now occupied by a long arm quilting apparatus!

This did not turn out well. This particular lily is called Tigger, as in Whinny the Pooh. The variety was the work of a small nursery about an hour from home, The Potting Shed. The owner has retired and the business closed. Most of the hostas, peonies, and day lilies we have were purchased there. Hundreds, which have now likely become thousands. Most have lasted well but some got of the day lilies got crowed out by poor planning on the part of the gardeners. I take full blame for that!

A few years ago, I was in Devon, UK visiting my cousin. We went for a drive and came across an open garage with this classic Bentley and an XK 120 in the parking lot, we wondered in the open garage and found a mint Morgan Plus-4 and and an Austin Healy, among others.

What struck me, was that there was no one around for the 20 minutes we spent admiring these beautiful cars.

Well, it just goes to show how tastes differ! I actually like the image of 'Tigger' best of the ones in this post. There are enough highlights to relieve the otherwise dark image and provide a sense of "glowieness" to the flower.

I know you weren't fishing for sympathy, but as I have yet to comment on your misfortune, let me say I am glad you are improving, albeit slowly, and hope that improvement continues!

Quite a variety of lilies, Andrew.

The prospect of a holiday later this summer is something to looking forward to.

Good to see that you're able to enjoy the garden Andrew and I hope you continue to improve and can get away for that holiday.

Tigger is my pick of the bunch. Maybe because it reminds me of the Tiger Lilies my Dad used to grow back in the 60s when I was a kid. I always thought they looked very exotic compared to the other plants in the garden.

I'm still very much enjoying the flowers Craig. Your wife has done a wonderful job with them. The 90mm seems to be a nice focal length for capturing the single blooms.

Thanks, Pete. The flowers have been exceptional this year.

The 90mm is just about right for this kind of photography. The more I use it, the more impressed I am by it. It's sharp and lightweight. Its designers did an excellent job.

I'm afraid I have to disagree Andrew. I like Tigger.

' The wonderful thing about Tiggers is Tiggers are wonderful things' if you remember the song.

Dave

They sure as hell don't make them like that anymore. More's the pity.

Dave

Congratulations Mrs Craig on producing so many wonderful flowers to keep your husband from getting under your feet at least for a little while.😄

Nicely done Craig.
