Welcome to the Weekly Image Thread!

This thread will appear every Saturday (GMT). If the thread is nearing full before the next Saturday, I may start a new thread and carry on until it fills or the next Saturday arrives and it is reasonably full in which case I will start another. Confused, so am I! From time to time the start could be delayed if I am unavailable.

Although this Weekly thread is in the Olympus SLR forum, we openly welcome users of all brands and models.

Please:

  1. Reply to this post and change the TITLE!
  2. Please reply to at least one other contribution, your replies encourage posters!!!
  3. If asked, please share your processing techniques or technical details.
  4. Please show the EXIF if possible. Please identify the lens used regardless of which camera was used to take the image. This helps people form opinions of the lens used with the body to possibly influence future acquisitions.
  5. If special lighting was used to create your image stating what was done may help others.
Thanks for joining and contributing this week.

If you post a pano that is on its own and not part of set of images feel free to post it as a reply to this post. I will not always have one ready so don't wait for me to post one before you!

Andrew

I would have liked to let the previous thread run a bit more but it is filling very quickly. If you have not looked in during the past twelve hours you will have missed a lot of great posts so please have a look!

I have no new images other than baseball so I went looking for some previously unloved images. I settled on three from last year, two very much the same with only slight differences. That said I processed them in entirely different ways than last fall (there is that word Chris). Anyway, it is what I have ready.

honestly this did not turn out much different than the way I processed it last year. Across the road from the front of our property.

similar to the image below but a different file Looking through some tall grasses we planted to the view to the west behind our house.

is how Buzz Aldrin described what he saw as he walked on the moon with Neil Armstrong back in July 1969.

The moon has been particularly spectacular the past couple of nights, and I have posted a few images of it. My process is noise reduction with DeepPrime and other changes and cropping in DxO Photolab6 and/or Photoshop Elements.

This morning I experimented with an additional step, using NIK HDR Pro2 after the DeepPrime and then finishing up with PhotoLab and Elements. I tried a couple of different approaches. Below is one of the better efforts.

The first image is closer to how the moon appears from my backyard. The second is a different perspective. Which do you prefer?

For myself, neither. I like the first result better as it appears more natural. HDR often creates looks that don't look quite right. In any case I like the first but with some more contrast added. The example below used local tone mapping with a relative low value. I like that better but it is all personal!!!

The Best Camera is the one that you have on your hands.

i like the first too, more natural

A nice view and result Roy. Out of curiosity, what is the cleared area near the bottom right of the image? It appears to be an installation of some sort.

It is a farm, I believe it’s a green house of some sort

I like it.

#1 is my pick. #2 appears to have too many artifacts for my liking.

Dicky.

PS. I went to my local camera store this morning to get a picture frame and noticed they had an MC-20 secondhand in as-new condition for AU$360; the new price here is around AU$560. I couldn't resist!

But I struggle to hold it still in poor light.

Different settings might help like allowing higher ISO

Beautiful.

Dicky.

Beautiful roses, I can't wait for spring here.

Okay, so, they're both awesome... can see nothing remotely similar here between humidity, haze and ambient light.

1st seems true to life.

2nd seems more a black & white image while the first seems to have a hint of color saturation.

Like the 2nd, but it's a close call.
