What I use medium format cameras for

It's such a shame some of these compact little FF cameras don't have an accessory EVF available. Then everybody can be happy rather than shutting out a whole cohort of potential users.
Then they would not be compact anymore.
DIdn't the RX1 have an accessory EVF?
Yes it did and I wish that I had bought one at the time.
Mine kept falling off.
You need to be more careful with your gear in the frenzy of taking pictures. :-D

I am biased to aspect ratio of 4:3 or 1:1. My first camera as a kid was using roll film but made an image of only 40x40mm and that gave some early imprinting to that format. I wish that the 907X would use also square format (not very usable in portrait direction). I got quite used to 4:3 ratio and I tried Olympus MTF twice but was completely dissatisfied with the lack of DR. I also had many generations of Leica but was never fond of the aspect ratio of FF. Of course one can always crop but it is much easier to compose with the format one likes. So presently I am using the 907X50C and X2D for everything as a lot of higher spec FF cameras are not much more compact and lighter. FF cameras are faster but that is not so important for my subjects except for focus bracketing.

I would like a compact photo camera for backpacking and outdoor macro photography. The closest I found in terms of IQ was the Sigma FpL but is had so bad UI that I thought it is not useable enough. A lot of FF cameras, especially compact ones are mostly designed for "content creators" and photography is more a side consideration.

I believe the Sigma fp pair do have an accessory EVF than can be plugged into the side of the camera. It's about the same size as the tiny cameras...

You can even buy it from amazon

My Canon F1,.2 setup surpasses a Hasselblad in both.

Go back and reread the OP. I think you’ll see those things mentioned.

adding that EVF monster to the Fp or FpL, it is not anymore an compact camera, a lot of SLR style FF mirrors cameras would be smaller

“Monster” seems a bit dramatic.

The Sigma EVF is adjustable, angle-wise, so has utility beyond a fixed, eye-level viewfinder.

Yep - there's nothing quite like seeing one's work printed really big...

(Our work as seen on the 'Discover Northern Ireland' double billboard - showing 'The pool with a view' image which was produced in the Spa at the Slieve Donard Hotel in County Down, using the Phase One P25 digital back on the Cambo Wide DS camera with the Schneider 24mm f/5.6 Apo-Digitar XL lens attached in 2007)

.. up close, to put a smile on one's face.

So what's the biggest you have seen your work printed?

Creating images to tell a story... just for you!
Cheers,

That's a reason I want some of my 100MP images with Gfx100 mk1 : to be made into Wall Paper people can decorate their houses apartments with.

(When I have spare change to afford Gfx100 mk1 with the best of Gfx lenses).

Photography after all is interplay of light alongside perspective.

I haven't experienced the Foveons. But would happily consider one with the accessory EVF, same with that silver ice-block Sigma camera that doesn't even have a shoe for a vf. I wish it offered an accessory EVF. I've hung on to the most recent small Olympus PEN cameras that take an accessory Olympus EVF, the E-P5, PL7, and PL8. And even at times use Voigtlander or other OVFs with equivalent primes on 24mp Fuji X APSC X-A5/X-A7 bodies and the APSC Nikon Coolpix A.

I've seen commenters alleging that an accessory vf "ruins" the Ricoh GR experience. I don't get that. Choice is a wonderful thing. Many compact camera lovers have zero need or wish to fondle a camera in their pocket. A small form factor and a wee bag will do fine. Accessory EVFs let everybody enjoy the camera, those who want to hold it like a smartphone and those who want to frame or want a third point of contact using a vf.
