Some in-line photos displaying extremely zoomed-in

I've noticed recently that some photos that people upload in threads get way over-expanded when you click on the "View: original size" link.

Instead of the photo opening up fitted to the new window, it opens up already expanded to about double its full size, and clicking on it zooms in even further, to an absurd degree. So you end up seeing the photo way beyond 1:1 and it looks horrible.

Here's a thread for an example. The first two images exhibit the problem, but the last three open and display normally:

At first I thought it might be an issue with somebody using one of the high-resolution modes on their phone to get an actual 48MP or 100MP image (God forbid), but then I noticed it with some of my own images I was uploading.

So now, when I post pictures, I quickly go through my post and click each of the "original size" links to see which ones are affected. I then edit my post and reupload those images. It seems to be about a 50/50 (or maybe a 60/40) shot of working right each time I upload, so sometimes I have to reupload two or three times, feverishly working and hoping the whole while that nobody responds to my post before I get it fixed, thus locking it down from edits, lol.

I've only noticed the issue with shots from phones, but honestly that all I've mostly been looking at and talking about lately (exciting times! lol), so I wouldn't know if it's also affecting normal cameras.

As an experiment, I'm going to post 10 random pics here (no theme whatsoever) and see how many of them display incorrectly.

Well, on my end, only the photograph of this poignant bathroom vignette exhibited the problem. So maybe my initial estimate was way off, or it's just completely random how often the problem strikes. But it's been happening to me way more often than 10% of the time.

All your images opened as expected, including this one, in this post and your last post.

Thanks for checking in. Whatever the issue was, fortunately it's gone now.

At the time I posted, I was able to replicate the issue every time on multiple computers and on different browsers. I think someone must have done something behind the scenes.
