Next 4 Alphas

Someone had posted a photo of the rear of the presumed A-7XX mockup (reflection). It only had two buttons, maybe three. If Sony stays with that there will be a lot of unhappy folks.
Here is the back of A7xx :(

No direct access to ISO, White balance, or "C" custom button

Hopefully the wooden mock up was incomplete since it doesn't appear to have a microphone for video.

In god we trust, all others are suspects

Why all the hubub over the back of the camera buttons? there is one button and one switch on the A700 back that is not on the mockup. The "C" button, which i would miss, and the SSS switch, which stays on 90% of the time for me. Everything else is just moved around. The power switch is moved to the shutter button area. I am more concerned over the direct ISO and WB buttons that were on top. Maybe you can customize the buttons for what you use more. I use ISO and WB FAR more than EV or drive modes. But in reality, i do not mind the menu system as used in the A700, even w/o the diret buttons.

Film is a four letter word

(Although a 1.1x 95% viewfinder is still great for a midrange cam.)
It is an EVF - there is no apparent reason why it shouldn't cover 100% - (with an optical viewfinder it would be a different story).

Forget everything after "Good morning" :D

Does translucent mean pellicle???
Well, from what I've read, the old pellicle mirrors were flimsy and fixed. The patent describes a mirror sturdy enough to act as a normal SLR mirror for still photography. It would remain down for video (and for LV with PD AF).
The pellix camera allows proper autofocus with video then it has an advantage over other brands, however AF video on a camera is just a small aspect and hardly a deal breaker for buyers who are probably unaware of the disadvantage of present DSLR cameras.
It also provides yet another implementation of "fast AF LV" with phase detect AF during LV ... but this time with main sensor, rather than secondary sensor. Whether I plan to shoot video or not, I think I like the sounds of this camera.

Keep in mind at how much the NEX changed from when these prototypes was shown. This is not the final design of A7XX.

so ... everybody's loving Sony, now?
Too soon to get overly excited, but a little bit is okay. :-) These are still just rumors, right? Is there a link to a Sony announcement? We'll know by the end of August if this rumor is true. Then when we see the actual cameras we will find out whether Sony botched it again by leaving out important stuff, poor implementation, bugs, etc. Remember, we are talking about Sony here. Anyway, I have my fingers crossed.

I can't remember a camera Sony released with a bug. Just features that every one wanted for free. There was the bad ergonomic design of the 330 group of cams. So that was the only botched job I can think of. Mostly unreasonable expectations of A700 features in an A200 body from the members of this board.

Yes, Ken, I agree--but I don't want to have to hear any more about mlu--so for goodness sake Sony include mlu in the A5xx cameras!

Good idea. I'll do that as well. :-)

There's absolutely no reason that the EVF must be 100%.

Come to think of it, if the cams still use some kind of prism \ secondary mirror before the sensor that goes to the EVF, the 95% coverage might be due to size constraints.

Regardless, the 1.1x magnification sounds awesome.
First, no one said it must be 100%, but usually there is no reason for an EVF not to cover 100% as it gets the live feed from the main sensor, which IS covering 100% of what it will capture for still images too.

The whole idea of a pellicle system is to allow phase detection combined with a live feed from the main sensor. But I'm always interested in surprises so if Sony somehow came up with a different system, I'll gladly stand corrected.

I noticed that too and it made me reconsider having any faith in the rumour as a whole.
It's because the EVF on Sony's cameras uses a secondary sensor located in the pentamirror housing, and since the OVF only shows around 95 %, so does the EVF.

When using the main sensor for input (mirror up), then the EVF should show 100 %.
A33 and A55 should use main sensor LV.

According to the sony patent, there is no prism/secondary mirror, all EVF datafeed is from what's you get in photo.

Unless sony cripples it intentionally in order to leave the gap for future A77, it should be 100%, and the rumor is wrong.

The photo is the mock-up of the A7xx shown at PMA, which will only be released after the a33, a55, a560, and a580.
Okay. I just went back and reread the page and didn't see any mention of the A7xx though. Any photos of the a33, a55, a560, and a580? I am especially curious about what the EVF models look like. Maybe they will look just like the OVF models.

Henry, as I remember it, Toru said that the new cameras will be like standard cameras on the outside, but completely new on the inside. Obviously he wasn't talking about NEX.

After all, the translucent cameras are electronic viewfinder only....

Sorry, I couldn't resist.... :)

I'll be happy to see the new models when there out...sounds great.
