Next 4 Alphas

I have been waiting patiently (somewhat) to upgrade from the A300. The A550 was very tempting these last few weeks with the price drop. However, I want video. I use it rarely, but there are times when it captures something stills cannot.

So, now I see 4 options, 2 pellicle, 2 not.

Besides the OVF versus EVF, why would I choose a pellicle model over the A560, A580? What does a pellicle bring to the party, what does it leave behind?

Thanks in advance,

Rich

PRO: Pellicle will allow continuous fast AF with Video.

CON: Since some of the light is diverted to the EVF and AF sensors, it will lose some light sensitivity. We have no idea how much, yet.

The pellicle cams may have a mirror-flip mode where it works like a nromal DSLR to get the maximum amount of light on the sensor.

A500 and A550 had exceptional battery life afaik, and evf power consumption will probably be very low.

Sony allows us to have more choises to fit our personal compromise between what we need, what we want and what we can afford. Having 4 options to choose from, is surely better than just one.
I love what Sony are doing. Launching 4 cameras to tackle a very popular segment.
2 different approaches, at 2 different price levels = 4 cameras.

If anything they are showing they are serious about DSLRs.

I am very excited about seeing what the A7xx will bring. I am glad Sony didn't do a rush job on it.

True. Now if they could just get the A7XX out the door :)

And without any buttons or functions falling off in the process :P

The picture is called a7xx.jpg - and I have a feeling a top display will be reserved for the A7** level and up.

so ... everybody's loving Sony, now?
If mommy says yes: Ah, we love you!
If mommy says no: We never get anything - we hate you!

The A7xx will be like a carte blanche to the candy store :D

The a33, a55, a560 and a580 are all due in August.
The photo on the page is which of those cameras? I can't make out the model number.

If it all turns out to be true and if they really are, finally, some good cameras then it will be some much needed good news.

While other companies release models months apart, Sony give the buyer two, three or even four separate models to choose between.

Some people hate the confusion it brings, though :(

Too bad, most people love choice :D

The photo is the mock-up of the A7xx shown at PMA, which will only be released after the a33, a55, a560, and a580.

Also, the models which sell well will tell Sony what works and what doesn't, helping shape the direction they go in.

Okay. I just went back and reread the page and didn't see any mention of the A7xx though. Any photos of the a33, a55, a560, and a580? I am especially curious about what the EVF models look like. Maybe they will look just like the OVF models.
