At first glance this seems silly, and indeed it's somewhat silly to make generalizations across different platforms like this, but actually it's true as a generalization within a system given a particular glass quality etc.silly little theory
of (verbatim quote from you) "bigger glass = more light through the
lens = more contrast".
I believe that Olympus will overcome much of this with superior glass especially on the zooms. I believe this whole thread was created because I said I don't believe one particular lens (the 300f/2.8) will achieve this goal (and hasn't IF the MTFs aren't over or understated by one company).I don't seem to hear you repeating this theory anymore. How come?
You know Jason, it's great that you explain it that way. It becomes enlightening. But then there are other crucial variables involved as you had pointed out. (I wish that someone said "ceteris paribus" earlier.)At first glance this seems silly, and indeed it's somewhat silly tosilly little theory

What he's talking about isn't contrast across a picture
technically, it's micro-contrast aka MTF aka sharpness. Indeed not
only in theory but in practice it goes up with aperture aka glass.
You can use dawes limit as a practical example of this.

that I just don't bother with a lot of facts, purported or
otherwise, that he might bring forth to discussions. And besides,
he hates my country. ;-)
And then, with apologies to everyone else for prolonging this
thread even further, I just can't help baiting that nice boy just
to get him pumped up even more. Cheap thrill I
know..................................
I just wish that this was USENET. Then I can just add a name to my

I actually do, and which is why I think you're continuing to bite the bait..........Lol, you actually think i care for what you think?![]()
If you can't see the irony of countering your insect with another....................Gee, my "photography isn't nature photography" comment was
hilarious. Nobody says you have to be a nature photographer, just
use your own photographs to prove your points is all i am asking.
I absolutely do not shoot weddings commercially. How dare you accuse me of that! It's too boring. I do interiors, architecture, travel, and largely corporate annual reports and portraits. Products are a happenstance.Try to do the shots your friend did without flash and see what
happens. Then again, you probably dn't know much about nature
photography, do you? Go back to shooting weddings and products,
please.
You mean you did? Why do you make your theory sound so darn silly when Jason doesn't? You've been taking liberties with the facts that's why. Try to remember to use "ceteris paribus" more liberally. While you're at it, go take a simple Physics 101 class. Maybe then
you'll learn something about optics.

Well, not on the same scale, and you started itOh really? And he's not rude to me?
Of course not - but snide remarks about his country and his anatomy certainly smack of racism to meAnyone that accuse of an
Asian is automatically assumed to be racist?
so that gives you immunity?By the way, I am
Asian as well, so that's hardly the issue.
I've read it all, and that's why I posted the message. It's one thing to disagree and it's another to simply be rude -- if
you look at the previous post and how he responded to my original
post, you'll know why this has started.
