IMPORTANT TIP! Is it actually clogged?

What follows is a quote from the mysterious and unobtainable Epson field repair guide.

This information is relevant to the latest generation of Epson Stylus Pro's 9900/7900/9890/7890/4900 ... I don't think there is any AID circuitry in the 3800/3880.

Hope this is useful for some!

. . . .

SS Cleaning: Maintenance Mode 1 (Hold the Pause button at power on)

SS Cleaning has a strong ultra sonic component. The Piezo Elements internal to the Print Head are used to attempt to break up pigment particles that may be clogging the interior of the Print Head.

Use SS Cleaning when a Nozzle can not be cleared through normal cleaning.

Color Pairs on the Print Head (Listed Left to Right)

1. Cyan and Vivid Magenta
2. Photo Black (Matte Black) and Light Black
3. Orange and Green
4. Light Light Black and Yellow
5. Vivid Light Magenta and Light Cyan.
Someone please help - I have an Epson Stylus Pro 4900 purchased new in 2010 and after multiple attempts with normal/powerful cleaning I am trying to to use SS Cleaning in Maintenance Mode. Problem is when I hold Pause button at power on the Maintenance menu I am presented with does not include SS or any other cleaning option - options shown are:

Language

Length Units

Temperature Units

Auto Cleaning Time

Maintenance Alert

Cut Sheet Remaining

Sleep Mode

Power Management

Default Panel

Custom

Any advise for accessing SS Cleaning would be appreciated - thanks.

Hey there - I know this thread is quite old, but has anyone experience with this type of situation -- My nozzle checks look good but am getting printer lines -- but when I do the purge print, the lines only show up on the VM, VLM & LK - these is bizarre... I am not finding a connection between those inks...any help appreciated.... Epson 7900. Kelly

I have an Epson Stylus Pro 7900. I am dealing with a clogged black ink print head. I have tried everything to no avail. I called Epson and an Epson tech person suggested I do an ss cleaning, which I am now reading about. This is the first I have heard of an ss clean. Are there any cautions? Can it damage the printer in any way?

Thanks for your response

Renee
