I recently got a Canon R5 Mark II and set it up mostly aligned with the recommendations here . After about the 20 minute mark you see the video settings. Today I recorded some test clips using those settings, and now I don't know how to edit them. Maybe I set up for software I don't have.

I have a Macbook with what comes with Macs. I also have Adobe Premier. If there's something I need to do to allow editing with the settings in the link I gave, what would they be? If I need to get other software to edit with those settings, what software would that be? Would you recommend different settings for what I have?

I tried opening a clip anyway in Adobe Premier, and it complained about a compression format.

It's been quite a while that I've done anything with video. Can you tell? :)

NM - I updated to the latest version and was able to open the files just fine.

OK. Here is my first edit with Premier Pro using Canon R5 Mark II source files.

The lens is an EF 100-400 Mark II at 400mm. The first clip is with mode 1 IS. The second clip starting 19 second in) is with mode 2 IS. The third clip, starting about 31 seconds in is with IS turned off. At about 39 seconds in it is horizontal panning instead of vertical panning.

In these test videos, I found that horizontal panning was pretty smooth. Vertical panning had jumps.

After that there are some random videos. The pond skaters clip shows how the camera lost interest in the insects and started hunting for something to focus on. The last clips shows a dog walking along a short wall at the detention pond. The horizontal pan there was smooth after I got my act together.

Interestingly, when I view this youtube video, it's all in real-time. However, when I view the file locally, the middle part is in slomo. I guess that's a quicktime feature. If I drag the handles in quicktime I can view the whole clip in real time if I want.
