Feature Request
I do not see the "likes" count on threads in the forums now. One of the things that gets me to click on a thread especially in the photo posting forums is basing it on the likes count, I'm more prone to click on threads with likes so it gets me more involved and generates traffic in the threads.

Likes count is there, see my like of your post above.

Great job, DPReview team! I'm really happy with the more modern forum software. One complaint though is that the exif info really gets in the way on mobile. It's great that it's easily visible but on my phone it obscures maybe a third of the image. Maybe a button to show/hide the info would be helpful.
Agree. It is rather huge!!

Under the old software, the likes count of the original post of any thread was displayed in the forum overview, before clicking on it. I believe that's what mfinley is referring to, though I myself never considered it an effective gauge of the quality of any given thread, as very often, the most upvoted posts will be those answering the questions raised in the original post.

Sorry I should have been more clear. I'm referring to the main page of a sub forum where it shows the threads, the Landscape and Travel most of our posts are posting pictures, and you used to be able to see the amount of likes the starting post of the thread had gathered, it was a good way to catch up on posts that were interesting to look at as the more likes typically the more interesting the post or photos were that were posted.

@Mathew Anderson
This is what it used to look like.

(I would have added this image to the first reply but the edit button doesn't work)

I think the whole forum setup is taking up too much room - and much of it is caused by the amount of headings and the pinned posts. What it means is I have to scroll down before I even start looking at what new or modified threads I might want to view.

Here's an example from the Fujifilm X forum. This is a screenshot on my WXGA+ screen (2880 x 1800). As you can see, I havent got anything to look at until I scroll down to the next page's worth of threads.

Not sure why there's a blank space. My ad blocker isn't responsible. I'm using Firefox.

Now compare it with the same on another forum. Also has 3 pinned posts. I can see some posts with new answers on the first page.

Can we have a 'compact view' or something similar please?

I just tried it in Chrome with no ad blocker. It's even worse. Look at this screen:

No wonder people don't like it.

Here's an example of another forum with three fixed posts:

  1. Add expanded links at the top of the page to allow navigation back to the full tree of forum levels. This would improve navigation especially on mobile where using the main website menus above the forum is more difficult. EDIT: I see now that if I hold my phone in landscape orientation that these links are visible, but in portrait orientation only the lowest level link is visible. Can the full tree be made persistent so that it’s visible in portrait view, which I assume is the default for the large majority of mobile users?
  2. Add a link at the bottom of the page to go back to the forum where the post you’re viewing was made.

Nice job Dpreview staff on the new forums. I've been coming around since 2004 and this is a welcome change!
I don't know if these have already been mentioned:
1. First Unread - a link to jump to the first Unread post in a thread in the forum thread listings? Home page?
2. "Forum" jump link at the top of each page that trails as you scroll like the old forums plus one at the end of a thread
3. Thread Page count links at the top and bottom of the current thread page.

Thanks again for the great work!

Integrate article comment sections into the new forum system :-)

If only to improve the comment-section discussion system's usability, which is not good anymore (while the tiny number of characters per post limit never was)... They could be excluded from the forums overview and from global search.
