DPReview Shutdown Thread

Closing one of the best photography websites and best reviewers in the
industry...can't believe that is a great decision, more like a corporate
centsless one. All my best to your staff and thanks for all the help they
have given to our photography, both personal and professional.

This is like setting both library and gallery on fire, why care if they're just "niche" ones?

Troubleshooting, knowledge and expertise, entertainment, useful tools for pixel peepers (and camera stores employees like me), lots of great art, community, and much more – I loved it and have read Digital Photography Review since I started taking pictures with my first DSLR (D40!). Now I feel like something died in me.

We should crowdfund

edit: the account is young, I always preferred just reading. All my capacity for words is exhausted by my loved wife and children (and not that much-loved job)

I see DPR as sorely lacking with not allowing video which I believe was a huge mistake as video is growing leaps and bounds in the camera world. Add in the fact that YouTube has become a powerful site for camera reviews due to every growing content of video where one can see hands on reviews of any camera, lens, smartphone, drone, spotting scope, binocular, etc. out there.

I do miss the days of around 10-12 years ago when the posts here were hot and heavy. It's been a fun ride for sure and wish the employees well.

EDIT: what's the best way to download and save images from our galleries? Thanks

I'm a bit mixed in my feelings.

I'm saddened by the loss of a valuable resource and people who are now out of work. I wish them well.

I've not always agreed with some reviews but we can say that about any website.

I'm not, however, saddened by the loss of community, as some has mentioned. I've never considered anyone here a friend or foe. Some users have been pleasant and helpful, others self-promoting jerks. Sometimes, people have been both. Sometimes I've been both although I've never promoted any gear for financial gain.

I've always paid attention to the content, not the creator. I could not name any other forum customer.

I'm not going to miss being bullied or banned for speaking truthfully about gear. It a shame that forums everywhere turn into an echo chamber. Unfortunately, being exposed to an echo chamber and not realizing soom enough that dissenting opinions are stiffled has meant wasting money. My current m43 purchase comes to mind.

To pivot to the future:

I've enjoyed FM.

Micro43.com is juvenile. I was cautioned by a moderator that I need to be more reverential to a more-frequent contributor who shares a lot of pictures. Seriously.

Micro four-thirds rumors is sales based, exclusively. More so than this site.

Truthfully, my recent purchase of an OM-1 has been such a disappointment that I've not done any photography for about a month and avoided this site. I've even turned down a couple of paying gigs.

I don't forsee buying any new gear again and, if so, it won't be m43. A decade of trial with that has been completed. I've been more than patient.

I hope someone can create a community that values transparency, isn't filled with paid shills, and doesn't make every decision based on whether it will sell gear. Where truth prevails.

For one final time:

I recommend OEM batteries exclusively. I never recommend slings or protective filters.

Peace to all.
