As usual, I wasn't clear on what I meant, but you didn't read the follow up notes I wrote, or you are ignoring them.
I meant to mention those pros who are sitting on old equipment that may not be reliable for much longer and those who have been pressured by their clients- the editors of magazines, etc.- to get more pixels.
I will not get rid of my Nikon equipment anytime soon. It works just fine for what I do. And I will NEVER switch to Canon.
Apparently, there will soon be an announcement from Nikon this week on product. According to jeff-c. I hope they sneak a body announcement in there!!!

--on a practical standpoint, that doesn't make any sense at all.
will their Nikon cameras suddenly stop working after MkIII ships
that they are compelled to switch? or perhaps the D2x/D2h will
output pictures of squirrels even if you're trying to shoot images
of Heidi Klum when the MkIII starts shipping?
Pros switch brands if they find that CURRENT equipment they have
does not meet their needs...NOT to look forward to something that's
in the HORIZON.
pssh.
--By that time many Nikon pros will have been forced to switch by
their clients and or their agencies. If they are going to have a
fall releas,e they had better announce it before the MK III ships.
Once these pros sell all of their glass, they won't easily switch
back, no matter how BIG that announcement is.
I personally will wait, but I am only a semi-pro and I usually
shoot for a newspaper. i have enough resolution and low enough
noise now.
