Answer from Nikon to III

The word I would have to use for the M8 is "Unfortunate"

Leica had such a chance to creat something really outstanding. I still have an use my Leica and the new Leica glass but I have trouble seeing "that special Leica quality" that was there when I used my M6 and film.

I do not know why but the "Leica Quality" just did not seem to migrate with the M8. Maybe it is because film was the magic and the magic does not get captured with a CCD.

I was simply dissapointed but had such great hopes. I still prefer my Leica M8 on days when I am going to be in the field all day and can't get back to the SUV.

The M8 still holds my 1st place winner for "best build quality". No other hardware feels as solid and precise to operate, none. But that does not mean it performs the best though I do see some images in the Leica forum that are quite outstanding!

As always, who is holding the camera is the most important factor!

I have not used the filters that Leica has sent me, many have not. Under some conditions with some lenses, they are a required addition to the lens.

Unfortunate. . .

Maybe Leica will get it really right with the M9, after all no company gets it right the very first time in such a totally new field. Remember the D1 was in a way flawed too.

Hopefully Leica will keep enough credit among its fans, because selling is the only way to pay for R&D.

Best regards.

I have a 1D Mark II and all L lenses.......

They sit idle most of the time.

Why?

Because I bought a D200 with an 18-200 Nikon VR lens.

Nikon's answer, in my opinion, is to think smarter not glitzier.

I don't come on here and post much anymore.

I'm too busy out taking pix.

All my friends have Nikon's and they couldn't care squat about what
Canon is doing, or what Nikon is doing next.

They're like me...out taking pix.

You people have toooo much time on your hands.
