Not liking the new layout at all. It is much time consueming to navigate to everything. The reviews, the forums (my posts link on the left hand pane is just gone). Replaced with NOISE no one cares about like the most frequent poster stats.

This is a move in the wrong direction. Usability studies should have been done.

The 'my threads' links is now on the right, but it shouldn't take any longer to click it. Navigation of the reviews and forums hasn't changed, the main menu is just horizontal rather than vertical. I suspect the issue is simply lack of familiarity and you'll soon be back up to speed.

I remain very dissatisfied. With your previous working layout I did not have to learn it. Where stuff was, was obvious. I did not complain on the first day of the new look since I wanted the "newness" to wear off. Well it is not so new to me now, and I like it less and less.

Nothing is as easy to find. (period). My Messages, for example, was before on top. It was right there and you could click on it from any location. Most things were that simple. Now it is hidden in a pull down on my name. Gee that was obvious. And, it is no longer called the same thing but "recent forum activity", the implication being that it is a list of my activity not responses to threads I choose to participate in.

Moving stuff from the top level to hide it in menus and with new names is not well thought out. You add nothing to the user experiance here except frustration and the "joy" of playing "oh where did they move that to". This has feeling of change for the sake of change. Of major changes done with out useability studies. Of a focus on "gee what else can we change" rather than how can we make this better for our users/customers. In my opinion, this new look is a huge step backward. I do not like it.

There is just too much empty space on the sides, and the tall look doesn't look right on wide monitors even me using 1680 x 1050.

I hadn't visited the site in several months. Came back to find the redesigned site, and I love it. It's taken me a few minutes to figure my way around, but all in all I really enjoy the new layout.

You are way to polite Simon, which is a good trait btw.

O.K. so we know your opinion now. Does anybody else get to voice theirs? Good, I don't have a problem with this new layout. I can adapt to the changes that are inevitable in this world. Technology creates CONSTANT changes, so you either adapt and overcome, or you sit back and waste away while the world passes you by. Your choice.

You equate not liking arbitrary web site designs with being a Luddite?

What technology drove this change to a web site UI? Oh that's right, it had nothing to do with the forward march of technology as you incorrectly imply.

It was a graphic makeover. It was "lets play dress-up" on a website.
Where I come from "dress-up" is not the same as technology.

And none of the straw-men you raise, nor your BS attempts to deflect my objections in to personal attacks have any bearing.

If you like it, say you like it and leave it at that. I mean " does anybody else get to voice theirs..." Oh bother, get over yourself and do not be so pretentious.

Unlike you I did not attempt to belittle anyone else's opinion. I just voiced my own.

The new layout makes me feel as if I am being repressed. I feel like I am being kept down by "The Man". Power to the People!

These threads are everywhere. I can enter comments in lots of places. Maybe, I'll get to the top of the list.

You are right. I goofed. I should have checked to see for other threads before clicking on the comment link at the bottom of the front page story.

I do agree about the wide. Why oh why do websites, even brand new designs apparently, keep this narrow width !? Is it because the mouse wheels all go vertical ? There must be a better reason than that. I even have my personal site go all the width whether you're a phone or a hdtv, and i'm not that good ! Fixed width is easier to design maybe, but not reason enough to waste half our screens ! :(

Anyway, aside from that, love the new site. It was about time ! But well done. Like the new featured articles 'slideshows', and the banners don't seems so annoying.

The first is the width. When the redesign was announced I thought, finally, they will allow the site to sense my screen dimensions and fully utilize it.

But no. We still have the same old screen display with lots of wasted space. The forum part, the part I come for and want to see/use, occupies about one third the width of my screen. The other two thirds are ads, useless fluff (which I would rather not see) and wasted space.

The second complaint is all the animated objects on the screen. Very very very (did I say very) distracting.

Static objects are no problem as they do not distract me from my primary task, which is reading an article or forum.

Although not a complaint, per se, I do think the bar to the right is too big and 'in-your-face', as it were. And I confess that I just do not understand the need for all the Top lists.
