Welcome to The Weekly Image Thread

This thread will appear every Saturday (GMT) and is open for submissions and discussions about images and processing techniques until the next Saturday, or the new thread is started. If the thread is nearing full before the next Saturday, I may start a new thread and carry on until it fills or the next Saturday arrives and it is reasonably full in which case I will start another. Confused, so am I! From time to time the start could be delayed if I am unavailable.

Although this Weekly thread is in the Olympus SLR forum, we openly welcome users of all brands and models.

Please:

  1. Reply to this post and change the TITLE!
  2. Please reply to at least one other contribution, your replies encourage posters!!!
  3. If asked, please share your processing techniques or technical details.
  4. Please show the EXIF if possible. Please identify the lens used regardless of which camera was used to take the image. This helps people form opinions of the lens used with the body to possibly influence future acquisitions.
  5. If special lighting was used to create your image stating what was done may help others.
Thanks for joining and contributing this week.

A nice set WN. You in the first captured by your wife? A nicely done shot and well composed too.

I will never understand how those plastic boats got classified as kayaks. They certainly bear little resemblance to the ones I recall from my youth. It does look like an enjoyable way to spend some time though.

An interesting sequence Harvey. I only did that once and ended upside down in the ditch. The car was 3.5 days old. Not a good day for us. Late December 1972 after a freezing rain storm in northern Ontario.

She does a good job usually ... and I sometimes use one of her pictures here if she did it better than I ....

BTW that last picture was totally Affinity-shopped ... The sky was completely replaced and a gradient filter added... I'm getting a bit more comfortable with Affinity.. That bridge was about as complex as I care to get with selections and it's not perfect as I didnt really spend the time .. A different time of day maybe easier as it does reflect the sky making portions difficult to exclude in the selection ....

Thanks for stopping by ...

No need to apologize but thanks for the interesting story.

Roses from The Humboldt Rose Society garden and Dahlias from The Sequoia Park dahlia garden.

All of these are hand held, focus stacked in camera, with ambient light.

That's all. Rich

Some nice effects Andrew. But #2 is my pick, that's a really nice deep red rose.

SE Queensland looks "hot" in the climate guide, but here on the coast we get a sea breeze to keep the air moving and only January & February are a little too humid.

Dicky.

Great series, fortunately no harm done. Reminds me of the first time I drove on an icy road on a UK holiday. :-D

That nigella looks to be an interesting plant. We too had some heavy rain on Saturday - we got a month's worth in one day.

Dicky.

Nice shots. I like you high contrast "noir" rose shot the best.

A very pleasant place for a stroll and to cool down. It's funny how some birds will become very tame and others stay shy.

Hi Rich, happy 4th of July.

Another great series, you seem to have mastered hand held stacks.

I have at last found an effective weapon the pigeons have no defence against. Water canon at ten metres! I only have to wave the hose now and they are in full retreat. :-D

Stay safe.

Dicky.

The more I use my old Canon 100-300mm L, the more I like it. As long as I keep the minimum shutter speed at 1/800 or faster, it can give very good results. Canon 80D and AUTO ISO.

It started off as a territorial dispute

and quickly turned nasty.

The noise level went up several decibels and it was on for young and old.

The Noisy Minor referees declared a unanimous points decision to the bird on the left.

The pecking order had been established and they all went their separate ways.

Nice sequence Dicky. Sometimes in an argument, sitting on the fence is the sensible option.

I'd never heard of Nigella other than the TV chef Nigella Lawson, Rich. She's much better looking than the plant.

Yesterday in Edinburgh they had over 60% of their average monthly rainfall in the space of 30 minutes. Been raining all night here. Glad you managed to stem the flood.

A nicely captured brown trouser moment Harvey.

A crisp, colourful and interesting set of images WN. I've always preferred getting out in the early mornings if it's going to be a hot day. It's been in the mid 70's in the last week which is hot for us in the far north.🥵 Woke to the sound of rain this morning but it's still warm.

Flowers in our garden have been very late this year but some have bloomed at last.

The Peony went from this

To this in two days.

Our wild rose wasn't quite in bloom but has now fully opened in the last few days.

It rained heavily last night and it has flattened some of the flowers. Hopefully the will recover.

Very nice work Rich. Blue skies, sunshine and an abundance of beautiful flowers. Enjoy every minute of it.

Thanks or stopping by Dicky … Since you take such nice bird pictures I'm sure you've noticed that there are what I call them -- city birds and country birds, birds who are familiar with having humans around and those that prefer not to see us at all …. I think that yard bird photography requires that I be out in the yard enough hours that thse birds know me, Even then if I want to be close and have them comfortable I have to find a place where I'm comfortable and stay there quietly for 20 or so minutes while the birds decide whether I'm benign or a possible threat, and even then they don't like quick motions or really long lenses pointed at them .. mostly … Even the heron like to assess whether you're going to be just another tree in the woods or a threat of some kind: however if he has a great rock to fish from he might tolerate a bit more. ,,,, sorry about that I guess this is mostly a monologue for myself and those who might be lurking around the thread but not stepping out in the open, no lecture intended. …
