It looks like an interesting lens. I would have to read some IQ comparisons before making a decision.

The Canon AF dominance makes a lot less difference on wide lenses, so if the IQ is as good or better, I would consider 3'rd party. The VR and the wide aperture would make a difference in hand held shots.

I was trying to shoot some hand held pictures with my 17 the other day around sunset. Let's just say I'm not posting any of those. (A few actually were sharp, but I just didn't like them)

With a tripod, I'd never use the F2.8.

I've also been wanting the 11-24, so I am going to research the Sigma 12-24 as a lower cost alternative. Wider is better.

I'm waiting for the lens review.

It looks good for my 6D II and M5( as a standard zoom).

B&H says $599.

It definitely will not be that price. The G1 is currently $1099. Tamron has typically had the G2 lenses start around the same price as the G1 so I would expect something around $1099 or $1199.

Yeah -- I think he was thinking about the Tamron 17-35 / 2.8-4, which I'm also curious about.

Yes, I got confused.

bulbous front element. the extra 1mm isn't worth the filter hassle for me. plus you would be trading one of the two best UW zooms on the planet for a Tamron.

do you need f2.8? I did and sold my F4 IS and bought the 16-36L III.

Tamron 15-30 is a heavy lens. A front-heavy lens. And it doesn't take filters.

Canon 16-35 IS, is a lens that takes filters, balances much more normally and has a wide range. It's also excellent from wide open.

I used 16-35 on a 1DS. The 15-30 VC on a 1DS is going to be rather heavy.

Canon 16-35 IS, is a lens that more people can enjoy without having to give it special treatment.

then why did you ask?
