Canon RAW Codec for 64-bit systems

I use Google's Picasa to view my 7D RAW files.
Works fine, it's free...

It seems that Picasa first render a crap image... then 0.2 sec later a better image, then if you wait a little more, it renders a nice image.

Psssst. Don't you think it would be nice sometimes if folks would just be quiet for a short moment and Learn something on occasion? LOL
One more anonymous internet forum expert, I presume? ;-)
LOL! No no no. I may indeed understand a lot about Photography, but almost nothing about Codecs (until now).

I was the one being quiet and learning (didn't you read my subject line?). And I truly feel that I have learned something from your discussion (and was merely lamenting that others might be better off doing the same). :-)

Cheers,
R2

Good judgment comes from experience.
Experience comes from bad judgment.

It's a bit of both, actually. First part is to get it right, second part is to port it. If you have a large body of old code working with binary data structures and doing a lot of bit twiddling, with many assumtions about type sizes, it can be very tricky.
Yeah - that's true. Though to be honest, if you end up in that position in the first place you get what you deserve. 'Tis the realm of cowboys ;-)

I guess it's possible that Canon have wound up in that position, though I'd have hoped that they would be employing proper software practices in their development.

So you know little about software development and think everyone should be quiet and listen to AxelR.

I think you may be assuming that everyone else is as ignorant on the subject as yourself. I can assure you that this is not the case ;-)

Sorry and appologies then. I took it as a sarcasm, my bad.

Mais Oui!, not as ignorant as myself! But it's certainly obvious who the Posers are.

Haha well I suppose that leaves me then, R2D2.

I could start mumbling about having coded in assembler, custom chipsets direct to the metal, etc. but what's the point.

Old thread I know but this was released not to long ago by Microsoft for viewing RAW files in lots of different Windows Applications and I tested it personally and works as advertised for 64bit systems.

Thank you so much. Great help. It works. :)

Isn't it nice that Microsoft can do Canon's job for them.

To err is Human. To really foul things up you need a computer.

Thanks. And just don't be tricked like I was into believing that "AMD" stand for AMD microprocessor, like in AMD vs Intel! Download MicrosoftCodecPack_amd64! I did install the bad Codecs and was disappointed it didn't work, until I tried again after your post! Here you have to translate amd64 with "64 bits" and x86 with "32 bits"?

If only MS could offer instructions as clear as open source projects !)

Brilliant, I was aware of this from last year but have been waiting for the 60D to appear on the list of supported cameras and it is now there - works a treat.
