MLU on 300D (pic)

Thank for the demonstration.

I leave my MLU on all the time.

When you shoot Continuous it does not work. (Normal Photography)
Shooting Single enables the MLU. (MLU photography)

These are the delay options:

0:1.5 SEC
1:3 SEC
2:4.5 SEC
3:6 SEC
4:7.5 SEC
5:10 SEC

Im thinking of installing the hack mainly for MLU and astro
photography with my telescope.
I've had good results with long exposures of deep sky objects but
not so good with shorter exposures of the moon.
It must be down to shutter slap most of the time.

However a 1 second delay is not long enough for my scope to settle
down.
On the latest hack i see you can change the delay.

Does anyone know how long you can set the delay on MLU.

Thanks Mark.

What would be a good all around setting for the MLU time?? I think the default is 1.5 sec. What are you guys using and why??

Thanks

Interesting comparison -- thanks!

One question I've had for a while: is IS able to compensate at all for mirror slap, or does it only compensate for gross movements of the lens (as opposed to the camera)? I figure it's probably not an issue in most usage, because you'd generally be on a tripod when you're using MLU, but I was curious...

I can't wait to try it. We got a new carbon fiber tripod with a good head and I will try to see if it make a good difference.

did you use the most recent hack and with with delay? the hack that I have has a non controlable delay of 3 seconds..is that what you used?
Just made a test to see if MLU really increases picture sharpness
considerably. (quick answer: YES it does)

This shot was done using a Manfrotto tripod and the 100-400L. I had
to use f/25 as it was very bright and I wanted to be in the shutter
time range where MLU has most of its effect. I've done multiple
tests and all pictures showed the same results - so YES, MLU is
absolutely great to have under certain conditions.

1.) Don't know about IS as I always turn it off when using a tripod - interesting question though!

2.) I used the latest hack (B71) and set the delay time to 3 sec - as far as I remember the wasia version I had before had a fixed delay of 1.5sec. I think we owe Wasia a lot!! ;-)

Does it hurt to set in on and forget about it ? If so, how many seconds are recommended for regular everyday use and eventual long shutter pics.

Hi,

Sorry for the ignorant question but what does the delay do and why would I use different time delays?

Thanks

well you can enable it all the time but if you use single shot then it will be doing the delay each shot. You don't want to do this. Imagine that you want to take a photo of your pet or kids doing something interesting...then you press the shutter but the camera instead of taking the photo right away lift the mirror, wait 3 seconds and then take the photo.

3 seconds later your pet is back laying down snoring...

Mirror lock up is usually used with camera on tripod when taking still objects. It is most usefull with shutter speeds of about 1/30, 1/15, 1/8 to 1 sec. When the mirror swings up it vibrates the camera, the vibration does have much effect at higher shutter speeds as the shutter is only open a short time. With longer expousers the vibration is not happening through out the expouser and is not a problem. I can't see the need of a long delay as the vibration does not last long.

You can toggle into burst mode to disable MLU. Burst mode works fine for single shots, so long as your shutter finger doesn't dawdle on the shutter. You should be able to toggle into burst mode as fast as you can do any other camera operation. If your kids are too fast for this, then maybe they need more Ritalin. (Ducks.)

You mentioned "shutter time range where MLU has most of its effect". Is MLU effective/good idea for long exposures, including bulb?

What's the "shutter range" being referred to?

Thanks.
