Welcome to the Weekly Image Thread!

This thread will appear every Saturday (GMT). If the thread is nearing full before the next Saturday, I may start a new thread and carry on until it fills or the next Saturday arrives and it is reasonably full in which case I will start another. Confused, so am I! From time to time the start could be delayed if I am unavailable.

Although this Weekly thread is in the Olympus SLR forum, we openly welcome users of all brands and models.

Please:

  1. Reply to this post and change the TITLE!
  2. Please reply to at least one other contribution, your replies encourage posters!!!
  3. If asked, please share your processing techniques or technical details.
  4. Please show the EXIF if possible. Please identify the lens used regardless of which camera was used to take the image. This helps people form opinions of the lens used with the body to possibly influence future acquisitions.
  5. If special lighting was used to create your image stating what was done may help others.
Thanks for joining and contributing this week.

If you post a pano that is on its own and not part of set of images feel free to post it as a reply to this post. I will not always have one ready so don't wait for me to post one before you!

Quilt Canada is an annual show put on by the Canadian Quilters Association. It is a juried show that is open by invitation. Its location changes yearly to various places across Canada. This year it was held at a convention centre near the Pearson Airport of Toronto. My wife wanted to attend so we drove there on Friday and spent about four hours at the show, plus the two hours there and another two back.

I will post some images from the show, likely in installments. You may or may not find them interesting. I took images only of quilts I liked plus 'environmental images'. Also a few with shocking price tags lest you think photographic equipment is pricey!

Andrew

P.S. If you are looking for a place to meet older ladies, a quilt show may be in order. They are generally friendly and no doubt some are single as age comes into play. For older women, you may be able to make new friends. The parking lot had cars from various States as well as Provinces of Canada.

The show has a vendors area. This includes sellers of sewing/quilting equipment plus quilting supplies, i.e. fabric and the like. My wife has a long arm quilter with frame, but less expensive than the one imaged here and minus the large screen on top which is a computer design and 'driver' for the motorized sewing machine and frame. The machine once programed will stitch out simple to extremely intricate patterns onto the sandwiched quilt. Typical prices for such assemblies are north of $35 000 CAD.

pictured here is a long arm quilting machine but without the frame (typically ten or twelve feet in length) and the computerized automatics of the above set up.

This is the top of the line embroidery machine from Pfaff. Our bank account is lighter today than yesterday! My wife had two previous top of the line machines from Pfaff. They both wore out, the second unit about a year ago. Repairs were no longer possible from lack of parts or not being worth the cost of repair. Sound familiar!!

my wife on the right, the purchase happened a few hours later before we left. The woman in the middle could be showing that expression for any number of reasons. Perhaps she saw the price tag!

The machine one step down the model line up. It has a ribbon foot attached. The price of that foot is about $1000 CAD.

I took an image of one of the vendors, pictured above. He handed me a business card and said if the image turned out well to email him a copy. He stepped out from the booth to do so and I took a couple of more images. This is the one I sent him.

The first is lovely Paul. The second very interesting to examine. Do you go into the 'caves' in those rocks? I can walk on a beach here but there is little to see except flat sand and a few trees. At this time of year on a weekend, a ton of people and no place to park!

Andrew

The day lilies were late and few this year ... These are from mid May and are probably the last I will photograph at the Botanical Gardens as the heat and humidity will keep me away ...

You've got to love this Andrew. Small town life at it's best. Average age 86

Nice .. Looking the other way .. It is a bit brighter looking this way --- day or processing? Looks like caves in the wall ... have you you explored ? ...

Our little village (pop500 on a good day) for the first time held a Fanfare (marching band Belge style) and orchestra 'event' combined with the brewery opening it's doors

Still enjoying my new toy

SWMBO and I really dislike the music but I am partial to the beer...

I think you need to be aware of what we had to endure

Some of the band have seen better days

The brewery has also seen better days
