Welcome to the Weekly Image Thread!

This thread will appear every Saturday (GMT). If the thread is nearing full before the next Saturday, I may start a new thread and carry on until it fills or the next Saturday arrives and it is reasonably full in which case I will start another. Confused, so am I! From time to time the start could be delayed if I am unavailable.

Although this Weekly thread is in the Olympus SLR forum, we openly welcome users of all brands and models.

Please:

  1. Reply to this post and change the TITLE!
  2. Please reply to at least one other contribution, your replies encourage posters!!!
  3. If asked, please share your processing techniques or technical details.
  4. Please show the EXIF if possible. Please identify the lens used regardless of which camera was used to take the image. This helps people form opinions of the lens used with the body to possibly influence future acquisitions.
  5. If special lighting was used to create your image stating what was done may help others.
Thanks for joining and contributing this week.

If you post a pano that is on its own and not part of set of images feel free to post it as a reply to this post. I will not always have one ready so don't wait for me to post one before you!

There are some nice images near the end of the previous thread you ought to see if you have not already seen them!!

Well it has been a week since I started the previous thread and it is at 128 so I decided to start the next thread, perhaps a bit early but ...

The images that follow were taken last September. I stumbled upon them looking for something else and decided to finish that folder. I do have many more from the past couple of weeks that I have not looked at yet.

Andrew

The first was processed last year but redone for this post. The rest were previously unprocessed and done up this morning.

A lovely variety of flowers Andrew. I like number 5 the best but am ashamed to admit I don't know its name. Or any of the others really.

Lochbuie is a little village at the end of a public road on the island of Mull. I visited it on my ebike.

Some work was being done on the castle and I couldn't get a look inside.

This part of the island is popular with nature photographers wishing to capture images of otters. This was the best I could manage.

Both nice to see John. I have seen a couple of owls here, one small one perched on our eaves trough during the day and a larger one in flight as the sun was setting. I think in our area I would have to actively look for them. I am sure we have them, I just don't see them, so that makes it especially nice for me to see owl images taken in a natural setting.

Andrew

Thanks Dave.

The fifth is an aster Dave. I can not be sure which variety but of the two common ones here, the New England Aster and the Smooth Aster, I suspect it is the first. It is a wild flower growing in open wooded areas on the property and was not planted. Monarch Butterflies love it. We used to have hundreds of monarchs on the property visiting these flowers when we moved here but over the past dozen years the numbers have dropped so much that I rarely see them any more.

I don't recall for sure but I think the first is a cranesbill geranium that grows wild on our property. It may have come from an elderly (hah, well more elderly than I by about 20 years, she passed last fall) lady that lived in this village for a very very long time.

The second and third are dahlias, one of Rich Z 's favourites. We have some large ones and some small ones. Not sure which these are but I think the smaller variety given the bloom size compared to the insects on them. The larger blooms are bigger than your hand.

The fourth is sedum, commonly know by the name stonecrop.

The sixth are hydrangeas.

Andrew

Thanks Rich.

Can one mail those things into Belgium Rich? Not sure what can be sent through the post to other countries. The dahlias in the images were purchased at Walmart in a bag of bulbs. Do you have Walmart there? They were not expensive but shipping them there might be!

Andrew

A nice set Dave.

Must be nice to ride that ebike around in spots like that. Do you have to pay extra to take your bike on the ferry? Maybe I should get a couple of ebikes for my wife and I. Not sure about that though because we live in red neck country and drivers are not always as courteous to bike riders as they should be. I used to pedal the local roads here when the kids were home and would ride with me. Then for a time after that. They had 'mountain bikes' but I had a road bike which I liked.

What is the hairy beast? Pony or donkey? I can not tell because of all the hair!

The Best Camera is the one that you have on your hands.

That is very hot Roy, especially with that humidity. Hot to walk about and very hot to work in!

Always good to hear from you and see your images Roy. Orchids are not my favourite flower. The ones they sell in grocery stores here, I am not sure why people find them attractive. Perhaps because they are 'exotic'. It is nice to see them growing wild though. Not something I am likely to see. I do like bromeliads which are exotic. We don't have those here either. You have them growing wild in your trees. Hope you are doing well Roy. Is the diabetes new for you or have you had it for many years? My wife is diabetic and currently changes in her medication have disrupted her usual routine making things less predictable.

Andrew

There's no charge for the bike on the ferry Andrew.

That animal is a pony probably a Shetland pony.

Dave

You can't have an ancient castle without a dungeon, Lynne. It was a necessity in those lawless days.

Dave

This spell of weather has been fantastic Rich, but the end is in sight it would seem. A change is expected at the weekend.

Dave

Wonderful set…..
