Welcome to the Weekly Image Thread!

This thread will appear every Saturday (GMT). If the thread is nearing full before the next Saturday, I may start a new thread and carry on until it fills or the next Saturday arrives and it is reasonably full in which case I will start another. Confused, so am I! From time to time the start could be delayed if I am unavailable.

Although this Weekly thread is in the Olympus SLR forum, we openly welcome users of all brands and models.

Please:

  1. Reply to this post and change the TITLE!
  2. Please reply to at least one other contribution, your replies encourage posters!!!
  3. If asked, please share your processing techniques or technical details.
  4. Please show the EXIF if possible. Please identify the lens used regardless of which camera was used to take the image. This helps people form opinions of the lens used with the body to possibly influence future acquisitions.
  5. If special lighting was used to create your image stating what was done may help others.
Thanks for joining and contributing this week.

If you post a pano that is on its own and not part of set of images feel free to post it as a reply to this post. I will not always have one ready so don't wait for me to post one before you!

Well it is currently -6 C but 'feels like -20' supposedly. I went outdoors to check the propane level in the tank today but that was it. These are from the past when we had more snow and colder weather. Two newly processed from the raws and one touched up from a previous processing, I was lazy!

I like your snow pictures, Andrew. My favorite way to enjoy snow is in pictures.

Also happy for you that there is currently joy in Mudville.

I wonder if it was warmer in the hockey rink than outside. The forecast here is for 32° F. tonight. This is the first time this Winter we have got that cold, IIRC.

I was out for a walk this afternoon in a T Shirt as it was almost 60°. I was testing my new Tokina atx-i 11-16 f/2.8 APS-C CF for Nikon F . It needs the F to Z Nikon adapter I already have for my Nikkor 28-300 AF S to fit my Z8. The Z8 senses the APS-C lens and goes into crop-sensor mode and cuts the sensor down to about half, appx. 22MP. On the Z8 the lens becomes appx. 16mm to 24mm. B&H had it on a special down from $499 to $279. It seems OK, I only want it for landscapes, but I'm trying it on all photography. The auto focus works fine and quick and doesn't hunt, but the motor is very loud. I don't care about that. B&H are good about returns but I think I like it. I've been suffering severe GAS. I hope this lens will help, but I really want an OM 1X dammit. I'm hoping that will be OMs new camera they've hinted about. Rich

I guess I should be consumed by remorse about showing ripe January lemons to you. Sorry, eh?

Same place looking west. Boat launching ramp and dock. You had better know the tides before you launch here. Low tide brings it down to mud and a few shallow channels.

I have black crowned night herons left over. The one at left is juvenile phase.

Is it mean to show ripe January lemons to people in Canada, The U.K., or Sweden? I may make a Margarita with one. Rich

I am inside staying warm Rich. The arenas are colder inside than out until mid December (in normal winter weather). From then until spring it is warmer inside than out. We lost the next night. :-( Slow start which they could not quite overcome.

The new lens looks to do a good job. Not sure if you saw it on the News page here. A smart adapter for $99 U.S. to adapt E mount lenses to your Z mount. Retains autofocus. Sony has lots of makers doing E mount lenses whereas Nikon does not have the same for the Z mount. You could buy an E mount lens (some of the non Sony ones are inexpensive) and use it on your Z8.

As to the lemons, no worries. Now if they were limes, different story! It would be margarita time. Well perhaps not. Then I would have to make the mix from scratch!

Andrew

That is an eclectic mix indeed Rich. The first is very nice and a great view. A lot of birds in that one area of that tree Rich. At 32 you could get snow! Does that happen there, the snow part? Nice scene also looking down the road toward the ocean. The cattle have a water view!

-9 C, 'feels like -17' currently. It has been overcast/hazy the past couple of days. Wake up in the night, can not see the full moon but the outdoors is relatively bright. You could walk around out there no problem with full vision. The light diffuses through the hazy and the snow is lit up. I went out a month or two ago and had no idea where I was walking, total darkness. I can't remember why I was walking around in the dark but I had a camera with me looking for something.

Very nice Rich. I think you need to tell the night heron, that it is day...

I did not know about the E to Z adapter, Andrew. I wonder if I need anymore lenses. I have 7mm to 1,000mm covered in four thirds and 16mm to 800mm covered in full frame.

My recipe for a Margarita is: lemon juice, lime juice, sugar, a full shot of Cointreau instead of triple sec, and 2 generous shots of tequila, about 3 ounces. Electric blending with ice makes it weak. I stir it with ice and a spoon in a big stirring glass used to stir a Martini, then strain it off into a chilled and salted glass. Mine surprise people because they're small and clear and a couple of them will give you a strong buzz. Rich

Thanks, Andrew. It has snowed down to sea level a few times in 50 years. At about 10 miles inland the warmth from The Pacific is lessened and the elevation begins to rise and it snows regularly. If you want to take the kids to play in the snow it's a short drive. In 1989 it froze hard and snowed hard and it stayed on the ground for several days. We've also had a few hard freezes without precip where the humid air has frozen on the ground. These are all rare and the usual cold weather gets down to just barely freezing and rarely lower. It didn't make freezing last night, it got down to 34 and is 35 now at 8:30 A.M., clear and sunny and forecast to hit 57 today.

Sunny today and I'm hoping for some clouds so I can test the new lens for scapes. Rich
