Woke up this morning to a few threads talking about QC issues with their K-5s. Seeing as how mine is on the UPS truck for delivery later today, I'm a little anxious about opening the box and seeing dust inside the LCD screen, or putting the battery in and having the mirror flop issue, or having a stain on the sensor. I know, it's paranoia, but has anybody bought a K-5 with NO issues?

Thanks!

Just remember that people are much more likely to post a thread saying "damn it, my camera [some flaw]!" than "oh, everything is great with my camera", so just reading forums (where people often go to solve their problems) gives a false impression of how many of the people who own it have such issues.

although i would add, whilst the camera is fantastic, if has cost me a packet in the serious lens buying addiction is has caused!

Only when it didn't bounce :|

Seriously, whilst there have been a few issues with some camera's I don't recall seeing a single thread of the nature "Pentax wouldn't honour a warranty". TBH there's a strong pool of users who enjoy getting their teeth into a problem and are then able to present a full analysis to Pentax... I sometimes think there's a quiet policy running to keep them happy :D

I think there will be many people that are doing ok, to be honest. Correct me if I'm wrong, but there is a longer timeframe since the suspected crossover (end of 2010) than the timeframe from introduction to that point.

At this point, I have no fears of the bodies. My local dealer was honest with me about the bodies and the primes being great, along with the non-SDM zooms. They advised against the SDM lenses and due to this honesty, I'm inclined to believe them about the bodies.

For fear of the almighty "karma" striking my K-5 the instant I post that "i've had no problems" i won't say that here. But I will say it's been smooth sailing.

Agree with an earlier poster...think of the thousands (tens...hundreds...i'm not sure of their sales figures) of units they have out there...then think about how small this forum community is.

Maybe we should all start posting "everything's great" threads to balance out the "my k-5 broke" threads.

I just recently got a new Android phone...and those forums are the exact same. People bitching about things not working right.

I love those threads. They usually devolve into the complainers calling the OP a fanboy, and the OP and supports bitching about the complainers. :) Though I agree with you. I do like to chime in every now and then about how I'm enjoying my equipment.

Bingo. Just posted about all the things I like about my android tablet, in the middle of a thread about all the people bitching because it didn't make them coffee this morning.

Even bad photography can be fun :)

My wife and I both own K-5's and both remain problem free after 1 year of use. My unit gets alot of use(daily) whereas my wife's has less. Though her unit has had several hundreds of hours of video taken with it.

Having said that, the lens release button on mine seems to of become quite loose. And so I've taken it upon myself to order a replacement button if/when it falls off. No word yet on whether I can order one from Pentax to date. I guess the fact that we have two K-5's on hand helps to alleviate the stress of knowing I might have to send it in in the even that the button does fall off. Though I'm not too concerned about that myself. - Worst case, I'll dust off the ol' K20 while I wait. :p

Not really sure why this thread? but here goes, I bougth my K5 about 1 1/2 year ago, $1399 was a bargain. 7 months later the internal flash quit charging, sent it back 3 weeks later they decided to replace my unit with a new one - complete with all the accesories - new battery, straps cable box etc.... mind you I did not send those items with my original K5. I am a happy photog...K5 has been the best Camera I have to date. Not a single issue since. Looking forward to a K5 FF someday - Hurry up Pentax/Ricoh, I've got 3k$ in the Market waitng for a new FF Cam - Not buying a Nik, well maybe AW100 for an upcoming Snorkling Vacation to Kauai...aloha.

Absolutely no issues with my K-5. The photographer, however, is getting old and starting to break down more frequently.

Thanks, everyone, for your positive feedback. I know threads like this drive some of you nuts, but I've just spent $2500 on my K-5 kit and I want to have peace of mind. Is this thread pointless? Absolutely. Am I glad that I got such positive feedback? Yes. Thank you.

I've had mine for almost a year with no problems.

I don't think it's pointless. It's what consumer forums are for before they became diluted and largely useless because people became fans of products, rather than users of products, able to give impartial feedback.

I got mine only about a month ago... but all fine, upgraded the firmware to the latest one just in case, but no errors or issues

this has been my experience with using Pentax in general, this is my third body, after K100D, K20D and overall I am very happy how they have performed over the years, no warranty use or repair for me yet. Any issues that I had, I was able to fix myself.
