Why did you choice Canon?

I choice it since they started out nice with nice AF lenses. Then the
digital era came and they had best products with best low noise and
AF capability.
Why did you go with Canon?
Because of the high ISO capabilities and the excellent lens lineup. I wished Canon's non-$4,000 bodies were as nice as Nikon, but that did not stop my decision.

Hi Matt,

Not sure why I have not seen Paul in about a year.

Tried searching his postings here but I could not find any active embedded pics. However, I did find a link to a gallery:

http://www.dphoto.us/forumphotos/showgallery.php/cat/all/ppuser/73

That looks like a pretty cool forum to join :-)

Cheers,

José
They were very inspirational and love the Canon skintones. No amount
of words can move me to Canon since I am a visual learner. So Paul,
thanks again.
Hi Jose! Do you have any links to pics/galleries of Paul Pope?
Did he leave because of MkIII problems?
Thanks in advance.

Nice gallery, but NSFW (not safe for work). :-)
And yes, that looks like a friendly forum with an
extensive how-to techniques gallery.
Thanks Jose!

...Nikon was too advanced and is designed for superior photographers.
Canon produces consumer-grade products of inferior quality. Since I
am a consumer and a bad photographer I went with Canon. Nikon is just
too good for most of us.

I hope one day I may be worthy enough to shoot Nikon, then I will
switch.

I chose Canon for a few reasons (my dad had/has an FTb from the '70s and a trio of FD primes that have produced great pictures and never had a single problem in the 30 years he's had it (it even has the original battery for the meter), and it was the camera I learned photography with. Also, 2 years ago I didn't know how serious I was going to take my photography and didn't have much money, so I used Rebel, D70 or D50 were about my only choices. I did some research and found that the Rebel performed better in most metrics and at the same time I had a customer who was selling her XT. So I took the plunge and here I am.

(I guess Canon marketing played a role here too, "If all the pros use Canon, then why shouldn't I?")

I didn't...Canon chose me...20mos ago I found a D30/nifty50 at a thrift shop for $90 and learned that DSLR photography was easier than with PnS digicams...

...upgraded to the 10D a month later...and when I discovered that I could use my old MF nikkors on it I haven't looked back, getting an XT and a 30D and lovin every shot I get right...

I chose Canon in 1975 with the FTb and a 50mmf1.4. I looked long and hard at Nikon, Pentax Minolta and Olympus. For me, Canon just fit my hands better and I never cared for the design and look of the Nikons of that era such as the Nikkormat which was in my price range. Canon really changed the market with the AE-1 and A-1 cameras of which I had both. I also had the F-1n which was a tank that could take just about anything you through at it.

Forward to 1991 and my entire system was stolen from a rental car in Brazil. I lost my F-1, A-1, 5 Canon primes and my 80~200f4 zoom. I looked very serious at Nikon as I had a full replacement insurance policy. After comparing Canon's new (at that time) EOS electronic mount to Nikon's and Canon's USM lenses along with the ergonomics, features and build of the EOS-1 I stayed with Canon and have been very happy I did so. The 80~200f2.8L was and still is a magical lens from that era. The 20~35f2.L had no Nikon equivalent that I'm aware of at that time and the 28~80f2.8/4L USM was a phenomenally sharp normal zoom which all influenced my decision. I still have my 300f4L non-IS from 1991 and just sold the 80~200f2.8L magic drainpipe.

...it was an affordable DSLR.

........And then a few years later, I choiced the 5D because it was an affordable full frame DSLR and I had already spent some money on Canon lenses.

Still use your 300D, Tim? I do.

I had to choose between Nikon D70 and Canon 20D....

Canon had more MP, better lownoise performance, better viewfinder, nicer body...
(also canon 10-22 lens was much cheaper than nikkor 12-24)

And after holding both cameras in my hand, I decided for canon immediately.
Felt way better in my hands than d70....

And now I'm deeply in Love with Canon EOS...... and even more with my pictures....

...I sold it.

It never gave me any problems and I should have hung on to it.

The D60 was a better camera than the D100 or S2 overall (Feb 2002) - the lens choices at the time, especially on the used market was better and the upgrade path was and still is better than other makes, even Nikon, though the D3X and D10 may change that.. The D60 is still going strong and is still a match for any of the XXD Bodies for image quality (even at ISO800 in RAW) and beats the lot of them for focus accuracy (bar maybe the 40D, I've not tried one) whereas the D100 and S2-Pro are just slow, dated relics now.

I've ran Nikon alongside Canon for years as well but only for certain cameras / lenses (they make great press & Budget cams and 18/28-xxx Superzooms as well as the best Wides in the business, Canon and FF U-wide doesn't mix) and that Nikon can make budget cameras which can actually focus in broad daylight consistently and have grips you can hold..

Please ignore the Typos, I'm the world's worst Typist

I switched from Canon manual focus to Canon auto focus in 1997. At that time, everybody except Canon was pushing having the focusing motor in the camera body instead of the lens, although Nikon also had their AF-I and AF-S lenses. The Canon design seemed much more elegant. I think the fact that everybody is now adopted the Canon design philosophy for their high end (and not so high end) lenses proves its correctness.

when I got the money to go DSLR, the D70 was just out and I really though it was the camera I needed

I choosed some 2.8 sigma lens and the whole thing ment much more money

buy the time I got all the money, about 3 month later, the 20D was out and reviewed on dp

the high iso where much better and that made me go for canon

since then I discovered 85 II and decided to stick with canon because I love this kind of primes

so now I'm waiting for the 5D2 because I want to move FF, and that the 1D3 is too expensive, too big, too heavy, 1.3 crop and too "gatling" for my personnal need, even if I believe it is a great camera
