Offensive language!!

...discussing politics and religion with strangers was also considered ill-mannered. It's amazing how many of those who want us to restrict our vocabulary also want to force their obnoxious religiou and political views on us.
I am no prude but I am pleased that dpreview disallows bad
language. Such words are simply bad manners.

Might I also add - that many non-native English speakers are often
appalled by the extremely poor grammar, spelling and 'language'
used by native English speakers on this site.
Might I then query you as to how exactly you know this? Are you privy to the opinions of these so-called "many" non-native English speakers that you mention?

or the last 200 years of your history or heritage (well... bits of it) but I do share your sentiments.
..only words.

How you use them is what matters. Sometimes what is referred to as
slang or swearing describes something better than any 'high-minded'
phrase could ever hope to do. It's not the language of the weak
minded, it's not the language of the limited vocabulary, it's the
language of our nationality, our history and our heritage. Swearing
has been around for millennia and is part of a full vocabulary.

Long live language. All of it, even the bits you don't like.

Really now, (IMO) a word is a word. Are we so sheltered from life that some people find the slightest hint of any reference to human excrament in a somewhat creative arrangement of words offensive? Oh poo!

Restricting our vocabulary is hardly the problem.. Expressing dissatisfaction is actually very narrowly restricted to a mere handful of very common four letter words.

How about expanding the vocabulary instead of using the same stale words over and over again?

What we need is a little Shakespearean creativity. :-)

As do many people in the rest of the Netherlands - and I dare say a
few in Amsterdam. Some of Europe's most prudish prudes come from
the Netherlands.

I like your thinking on this topic..

DPR is Full of self righteous People - I personally think it's far more offensive to call someone else " A Brainless Moron with the social graces of a Pubic Louse" than it is to call a camera or lens a Load of Fecking Cr@p ..

People put too much emphasis on the WORDS themselves and not the way they are used.. they're all just words after all, there are allowed words such as Bugger and Sod which in actual meaning are more offensive than the Feck word.

As a society we are turning into a bunch of self-rightous persons. I really wish we could get back to a state of mutual respect for other's opinions along with respectful intelligent debate. If facts are black and white, then by all means hold your ground, but if the topic is one whose parameters are not so well defined, then please respect others' opinions as yo would like them to respect yours.
