Aloha All,

I have to confess that for the last few months I have been visiting this forum in a quiet capacity (that sounds better than lurking), and I just want to say THANKS to all of you, and formally join the ranks of this fine community...

I have been so impressed with the sincere willingness to help each other out; the sharing of wisdom and technique; the questions, debates, and even the occasional silliness and ego-bruisings and mis-communications that occur when people become passionately involved in discussion...

I guess the reason for not jumping in sooner is that most of my questions at this point have been answered before I could even ask them! Especially as regards the semi-great E-10/E-20 debate, and the everlasting tech-envy dilemmas that occur especially now as the new flock of cameras and CCD's tempt us and promise to fulfill our magapixel dreams... At least until the next batch comes along...

And here I am, the semi-proud owner of an Oly DL620 antique 1.4 mp SLR (which at least still qualifies me to partake in this forum). Proud, because I have enjoyed it so much and have actually created some very nice prints with it (which I will post later). Semi, because it has some extremely frustrating quirks (you think low light AF is a problem with the Exx's??!!!). And now it is time to move up the line...

That is what initially brought me back to this site and especially to this forum: To research the Exx family. And what I found was this great family of, well, I guess Oly people, but more importantly, just good and supportive people. People with digital passion...

So, Thank You.

Thank you Jono, for your talent, your wisdom, your perspective, and your sublime patience in answering questions and clarifying answers. You really did assist me in my selection.

Thank you Diane B, for your absolutely inspiring B&W work. I aspire to such heights...

Thank you Beth and DF and Jukka and Bram and JP and Pixel and Eilleen and Ferenc and Warp and Vance and all the Jasons and that brilliant Belgian artist who is about to spread his d60 wings ;-)

For those of you who haven't yet run screaming from this rambling, I guess I should mention that I have decided to order the original Exx jewel, the E-10. Just too good a deal to pass up ($), and I am sure it will suffice just fine until a few more rounds of technological dust has settled. Here I am, getting very excited about a camera that many are so anxious to grow out of - but that's technology... I believe the Exx cameras will always be "classics" and will provide the tools for wonderful image making for years to come. Flaws and all :-)

Thank you all so much, or as we say here, Mahalo a nui loa...

Now, maybe I should shut up for another few months, but when I return home to my jungle abode, I will be happy to help anyone out in any way possible...

And thank you, GP, for resolidifying the reason why we're all here.

'Can't wait to see your 620 and E10 pics!!!!!

Have a wonderful evening, GP. We'll look to hear a lot from you, now that we know you exist :-)

I appreciate the compliment as I am sure many other here do as well. I agree with you that the E-10/20 series are classics. They are just like the old Pentax K-1000 that was built so well it has lasted for more then 30 years and is still used by many today. Some of us come from film backgrounds so we want what we had in the past, fast autofocus, quality lenses, burst speeds, and little to no delays. We were spoiled by the level of technology that we left in film cameras. When I look back at the time it took to perfect film cameras I have to remind myself that the digital camera is not that old and I have be patient. In a lot of ways we have been lucky that technology has moved so fast and we have been fortunate to partake in it. Yet at the same time its frustrating as we want our skills and equipment to grow with us and yet we run into either technological, Mechanical, or user limitations. So I welcome your participation, thoughts, and contributions to the forum. I have been very fortunate to have interacted with the same people you compliment.

GP,

Welcome to the flock. I/we look forward to your participation.

Even with it's limitations, the E-10 is, in my opinion, an extreemly capable tool that I am sure you are going to love. I personally have not been too bothered by the limitations of the camera, but rather have not yet reached my limits with it.

Enjoy, and post often.

Looking forward to your photo posts...old and new...and welcome to the 'club.'

For those of you who haven't yet run screaming from this rambling,
I guess I should mention that I have decided to order the original
Exx jewel, the E-10. Just too good a deal to pass up ($), and I am
sure it will suffice just fine until a few more rounds of
technological dust has settled. Here I am, getting very excited

Just give me a few more megapixels, my Photoshop darkroom with GF,
and I will be a happy student of digital imagery for quite a while
longer...

Thank you all so much, or as we say here, Mahalo a nui loa...

Now, maybe I should shut up for another few months, but when I

Thank you for the compliment, GP. We all welcome you---and I feel sure you'll love the camera---and enjoy the fun we have here on the forum as you come out of the shadows smile . Looking forward to seeing your images. I looked at your profile---can't WAIT to see your stuff. Hi GP

Welcome to the fray (not to the forum as you've obviously been here for a while)

I hope you enjoy your new camera (I'm sure that you will)

And last of all, thank you very much for your kind words - I'm sure that I don't deserve them (especially the bit about patience, which is sometimes lost :-)

Anyway - it's a great place - enjoy

kind regards

Let's see some of your photographs!

Good move GP. I sold my C2000 last month and bought an E10 last week. I really like it and the price was about 900 less than last year.

I was going a little coco nuts anyway ;-) In fact now I REALLY am, cuz I am over in 'America' (CA) for another 10 days and will order the E-10 next week to meet me when I get home. I can't wait, as I am brimming with ideas, and all my pbase photos are on my home computer...

I can't wait to get home to receive my new toy and then start picking your B&W brain a bit, as well as posting some other pics...

Yes, the islands offer so much visually - and sorta strange, but instead of technicolor sunsets, I am drawn to sepia toned images of the local faces filled with character and culture, weathered hands building stone walls, even glistening tropical foliage in shades of grays. I love color, and use it most, but B&W has so much, well, character!

And OT, yes, my work is pretty different - an intense combination of science and artistic display; preserving orchids, indigenous flowers and handmade leis for museum, resort, and private collections. After the preservation process, I must create each display encasement by hand, trimmed in koa wood and copper and lit with aquarium lighting, which is partly where the "craftsman" description enters...

Digital imaging and "Photoshopping' are offering so much enjoyment and chance for creative exploration, with so much less intensity of labor, that I
am absolutely loving the expansion into that visual area...

Cheers and Aloha,
GP--GP MerfeldIsland Preservations

Thanks Jono...

You definitely deserve the kind words... You seem to be quite a pillar around here. And I mean that in a good way ;-)

When I return home to my jungle abode (in about 10 days), I will begin posting some older stuff, then, if all goes well, some sock-nockers with the new E-10...

Hi GP,

What a nice introduction. Welcome to the "no longer quite so quiet" membership!

Can a self portrait be far behind?

You're definitely in for some exciting times with the E-10.

Looking forward to seeing your first photos.

Best wishes,

David-- http://www.mongoosephoto.com

Thanks David!

I'll be posting some photos as soon as I return home from the mainland. That is when I will also receive the E-10, and I can't wait!
