At 6.1 mm the iPad Air 2 is at launch Apple's thinnest tablet and comes with the new Apple A8X chipset that is therefore 40% faster than its A7 predecessor. The new tablet also gains the TouchID fingerprint sensor we have already seen on various iPhones and that allows for secure unlocking of the device and payments with the new Apple Pay service.

The screen retains the 2048 x 1536 resolution of the original Air but comes with a new anti-reflective coating that according to Apple reduces reflections up to 56%. The camera has been improved as well and now offers an 8MP sensor with 1.12 micron pixel size and F2.4 aperture. It comes with the same time lapse mode as the latest iPhone models and can capture 1080p video footage. There is also a 120 fps slow-motion mode and a second microphone for stereo recording. The front camera comes with a F2.2 aperture, improved face detection and is now capable of burst shooting. Battery life remains unchanged at approximately 10 hours but the new models comes with a faster Wi-Fi module which is rated at up to 866Mbps.
