DPReview Shutdown Thread

Sorry to hear this. DPReview has been a great resource for the nearly 20 years I have been looking at it.

Does anyone have any favorite alternative forums they would recommend? There are several I visit occasionally but DPReview was always where I went first.
Forget Fredmiranda...haha
Why is that? I know it is a pay site but I'm just curious why you say this ?

I guess it is more of a photography site versus a photography gear site, but I was actually thinking about going there anyway. For other reasons though.
Only the for sale portion of the site charges. The talk/equipment forums are free.
Really ??? Well I have no idea, thank you 🙂

This is really sad news. This site has been around for the entire time that digital cameras have interested me and it has been such a valuable resource for researching new cameras and old ones i'm checking out on ebay.

And if so, can we please have a part 2 3 4 5 6 7, etc, etc...

I did not expect this at all. Most days, I check the DPR forums in the morning and at night for new posts. I choose to get email notifications so when I get those, I go to those threads.

There must be a way to keep the forums. I NEVER pay to subscribe, ever, to any forum but I would pay to have the forums here continue. How can we make this happen?

I was waiting for someone to mention place. Won't work for me. I have no idea why it is, but they absolutely hate me at that place ???

I e gone there like 3 X's, and tried to show my best positive behavior, but they were bashing me on my first or second post. Even changed my name once... But it made no difference. I could post a sentence without getting slammed for something ? Me er understood that place ? Not saying there hasn't been some silliness around here at times, but I feel like I've become a pro at learning to ignore the haters LOL 🙂

oh man, it's like losing a lifelong friend, super sad about this. The forums... the awesome reviews.... been a member here forever it seems, so many great memories and learned so much.
Nothing out there will replace DP, facebook groups suck compared to the quality of this forum. :( :( :(

Mods: I know you are trying to eliminate having a million threads about today's sad news. But it could help those of us who might like to see the community we have built here attempt a mass migration to a new home if you allowed a second thread dedicated specifically to discussing alternate forums.

I know people have been posting about this here on this thread but I am having trouble sorting out the specific suggestions.

I’ve just carried out a similar review and decided that I’m not getting value from my Amazon Prime membership so I’ve cancelled it.

I’d encourage others to do the same. Really not worth the money.
Do you really think Amazon care? By the end of June 2023 DPR will just be a long ago memory.. Humans Adapt.. Moving On.. L

Thank you for being there when I was young :-( Always in my memory bank.

Re "I never pay to subscribe to anything"-- I feel exactly the same way.

So sad to hear DPR shutting. I loved the "Guess The Place" threads and many tips.

Only earlier today I re-charged my Casio EX-V8 which I loved from 2008 or so - and on recommendation of Ken Rockwell.

Maybe he will be smiling after all the grumpy remarks people made about him.

O tempora, o mores!

I got the e-mail today. A bit shocked, but can't say I don't expect it. The way the world is going, cameras will be the LAST thing on people's minds as we head into a catastrophic world war. Businesses are closing all across the world, particularly America and Europe. We're in the age of the Greed Apocalypse, brought on by Socio-Economic Entropy.

As I reach the end of my twilight years, cameras aren't something I can afford, nor have much use for anymore with my failing eyesight, so I haven't frequented here much in the past decade. I do wish all the youngsters well and hoping y'all have a place to gather and chat about your favorite technology.

For the time being, for those of us on Facebook, please join “Friends of DPReview”. The group doesn’t have to “last” but we may be able to stay in touch until a permanent home is found.

My 4752 nd post? I’ll not get to 5000 :-)

I have learnt so much here. Like really changed my photography. That was on the old Nikon dx forum.

I despair for the future of the internet. I remember when suddenly the world of small expert websites, looks like only the click bait and shopping will survive

shall we set up a dpreview Facebook group?
