Decided to go to the Huntington Botanical Gardens on a grey super bowl sunday and got some pretty cool shots

There is very minimal processing on all of these. I wanted them to look how they looked when I shot them. It was grey and rainy.

Some really cool clouds. Grey days can be really tricky...since it is bright in the sky and dark on the ground and everything is basically backlit. D600 nailed the lighting tho

A storm is coming.

Soft shadows can be tricky...and beautiful. Also, the lack of light means a lack of color....which is not necessarily a bad thing. I think the greys against reds come off quite pretty.

Some more interesting back lighting. While it is mostly silhouette...it still has detail.

Cool candid, shot from the hip in Q mode (or as I like to call it...stalker mode.)

The gloomy grey lighting also works well in B&W.

My goal with this was to not only capture the crazy lighting...but to also use the low f-stop to create a shallow dof and really take in the tranquility. This color is a very sincere interpretation of the day.

I noticed a light under the tea room. It turned off the second after I took this. So it felt even more special.

The sun broke for the briefest of moments.

I intentionally shot this at f1.4 to give it a very confusing DOF. The shallow fg is out of focus...but the infinite reflection under it is in focus. A very interesting trick of physics!

The obligatory low SS waterfall. I had to do it tho, since it was SO dark, I was able to achieve this without an ND filter.
This was my first outing with the D600 on a grey and stormy day and I think it did a phenomenal job. Very happy with the results and am more happy with this camera the more I take it out!
