Zf newbie here. I have a quick question about accessing the 1/3 shutter steps in full manual operation.

Is there a way I can use the shutter speed dial for full step shutter speed AND the back dial for 1/3 steps fine adjustments ( like the Q2 or Fujifilm) instead of locking the shutter dial to the "1/3 step mode" which I can only use the back dial for shutter speed control ?

Limiting the access to the interval shutter speeds between each full steps to back dial only defeats the retro manual experience IMO. And that forces me to use the interval ISO steps to achieve the right exposure sometimes. That is not an ideal practice to me. And on top of it.. I tend to use full ISO steps only.

Of course, the perfect implementation of the shutter speed dial is the Leica M bodies that its shutter dial is in 1/2 step increment with full step markings.

I try to be more consistent with the way I operate manual mode and make my experience with the Zf close to that of the Leica cameras.

Thank you!

Umm … in “the retro experience,” I.e. using a Nikon FM, you selected 1, 1/2, 1/4, 1/8, 1/15, etc. shutter speeds - a full stop difference between clicks.

So … do you want a true old-time camera experience, or do you just want “as if?”

What does the Zf manual have to say about your desire?

There more important point is… is there a way? Any helpful answer please?

I don't think you can it's either/or

Full stops with shutter dial, half stops with conyrol wheel.

Thank you for confirming it! This is so unfortunate they limited the 1/3 steps access his way and made it non-compatible with the SS dial use.

Extremely unfortunate. A terrible oversight by Nikon.

On the other hand, it might be very very cumbersome to have to turn two dials, one after the other every time we want to change the ISO
