I posted this in the weekly photo thread, but tried it with the 24x65 ratio and it was ok. This panorama ratio is not something that suits my photos very often, a bit too wide for my liking. But posting this, as it worked for this picture.

Yes "unconventional" is certainly a good qualifier. We are now used to screens with a 16/9 ratio and the 6x12 ratio works well for filling this format, but 6x17, or X-Pan and such seem more dynamic and I like it. Why not also in vertical format. Not as easy to display though.

You inspired several forum members on this thread to crop their photos to match this vertical aspect ratio after they saw your photgraph.

Good discussion, Rob - one of the three reasons I went into GFX system 2 years was to shoot XPan ratio images of moving or shaky subjects with less of a headache. 3 images from the Glencoe, Scotland are attached.

These are terrific examples Vlad. I especially like the third one; the rock face makes a fabulous backdrop for the tree.

Just had my first proper go at this. Taken from home this morning as the early morning mist was clearing:

I like it, but when it is murky like that, convert it to B&W number 4 in LR and see if you like it.

Add some contrast and play with the clarity a bit and post it.... Try B&W 3 and 6 too.

Man knows what he likes:

Lightroom B&W (no6) looked best to my eyes

I can definitely see where you're coming from Greg. I initially never considered B&W because I was too focussed on getting the warmth across.

Would be pleased with either!

I've enjoyed this thread : the photographs, reading views.

Photographers on this thread enjoy cropping from raw : either to a specific ratio and or to a ratio that fits the photograph.

Reckon photographers on this thread would enjoy 100Rf rear aspect ratio dial utilising just for composition thereafter cropping from raw.

That's how I'd utilise 100Rf crop ratios solely for composition. 100Rf Raw always for me to crop from.
