The possibility of choosing different aspect ratios brought me to the Fujifilm GFX

I always loved the X-Pan format and i crop the X-T5 files or stitched panorama to that format a lot.

Just an example of a single shot with "fake" RDP film as frame:

I love this! Makes me want to get out my old XPan exposures and glory in them.

Late to this discussion, but XPan format was one of the reasons I got a 50R. I had an XPan back in the day and loved it.

One aspect of this format is that, in horizontal orientation, it often serves as a foreground crop, which can mitigate DOF concerns.

Here’s my latest attempt, which I also posted on the weekly thread. Compositionally, I tried to emphasize horizontal strips of varying texture and color. I didn’t quite nail it in camera, but shooting in RAW + JPEG allowed me to nudge the crop downwards a bit to balance the size of the strips. In 4:3 format, the sky and foreground sand would have dominated.

Nice, Rob. Kind of forerunner. Makes me think of 1 Kings 18:44 .

And when he returned the seventh time, he said, “Behold, a cloud as small as a person’s hand is coming up from the sea.”

Happy Sunday!

Thanks Peter. Thank goodness for that little cloud. The rest of the scene below the crest was more of the same, so a nice blue sky helped.

A bit narrower than 65:24, but I've been testing it out recently with stitched panos in prep for getting a Sirui Saturn 50mm t/2.9 anamorphic lens for my L mount system. Shooting 3:2 open gate video, or just taking "standard" photos, and then de-squeezing yields 2.4:1 imagery. I like getting the extra width without the pics looking wide angle.
