X100S - Recommendation for a soft release shutter button

Buy one that looks nice. I bought one with a gold salamander, my grand daughter likes it. Check it is secure whenever you turn the camera on. A tiny bit of paranoia will go a long way

So I bought a Gariz soft release button. I use Fuji leather case and the button obviously touches the case while closed and not only touches, but is being pressed quite a bit. When the camera is in High Performance mode in Power Management Menu the battery is being drained even if the camera is off. It was already reported here. When High Performance is OFF, the battery is OK. But it still bothers me that the release button is constantly pressed down when the case is on. So I decided to remove the soft release till someone convinces me here that the release button always pressed down is not damaging the camera. I cannot imagine that in fact any soft release button does not interfere, given that the space is so small. I checked that even the speed dial leaves a mark on the fuji case and we are talking few mm difference in height between release and this latter dial.

Any comments? Thanks in advance.

There are many shot releases which aren't as thick.

For years I used the Abrahamsson release on a variety of cameras. Never lost one, never came loose. The threads are a bit longer and coarser than most and bite well.

I just switched to the Match Tech new O soft release. I felt it was a work of art and a smart design. Brass, very well made and a built-in o-ring.

The cheapo's need some form of glue to hold them on. Threads tend to be short, sometimes painted, always smooth. As long as you coat them with a touch of whatever, they work just as well.

Thanks to everyone with the reply! I still think that even the soft release with the minimum profile (height) will be pressed if placed inside the Fuji Leather case. Unless I am mistaken ( and I checked way too many photos with the soft release mounted) the latter is the case. So my still unanswered question is: will damage be done to the camera if the release button is constantly pressed (camera off, High Performance off in Power Management) inside the camera case?

Thanks again.

Thanks for all the input folks.

In the end I took a chance on a pair of red convex soft releases from a Chinese seller on eBay - $5 in total and free postage.

A month of reasonably heavy use later and it's stayed on quite reliably.

I do make a habit of tightening the soft release as part of my standard motion to turn on the camera, I expect that helps.
