X-T100 operating issues ?

I've got 4K59.94p 200Mbps video looking pretty decent out of my X-T100 with software. :-D

I thought it would only do 15p.

What is the software? Is this running on an external device connected to the camera on a HDMI cable?

Hi Tom,

The X-T100 video is 4K at 14.985p at around 60-70Mbps. This can be interpolated reasonably well through software to 29.97p and 59.94p. My initial tests show using M mode with 1/30 and 1/60 shutter, suitable aperture for situation and Auto ISO produce the best results. Use 1/30 shutter for 24p and 29.97p transcoding and 1/60 shutter for 59.94p encoding. When I have more interesting video samples I'll make a complete guide, and maybe host the video samples on YouTube so they're easier to consume.

If you're really desperate to see my wonky test videos, send me a PM and I'll give you the Dropbox link. Warning, big files approaching 280Mbps! All I have so far are bushes bustling in the wind with panning, but the output stomps on the standard 4K output and doesn't make me ill to watch anymore.

I'm sure plenty of forum members will be very interested in what you are working out.

I'm sure there's plenty of members that will bleat that we shouldn't have to jump through so many hoops to get a better video implementation, and just buy another camera in the first place... But to me PPing video is the same as I would do with stills at any rate, so it's no big deal.

One type is af frozen. Af box goes green and gets stuck. Shutter and directional pad don’t do anything. On and off can reset.

Other is controls go unresponsive, but I can use the mode dial to go back and forth to reset.

Last is complete freeze, and even turning the camera off does nothing. I need to take out battery to reset.

I don’t know if I stumbled on some kind of buggy configuration, or if something is wrong with the camera, but I sent it back.

My X-T100 has not displayed any of the above issues. Also, no problems with UHS-II SD cards other than I wish that the camera could take advantage of these cards' speed.

IMO, UHS-II support and compressed RAW would have been nice features. I'm a RAW shooter, so these would be useful to me.

Otherwise, I have been very pleased with my X-T100 so far. I love the small size and it will likely become my overseas travel camera.

Maybe the next version (X-T101 maybe, at a slightly higher price) will include regular 4K. I guess Fuji is getting a lot of negative feedback about the 15p limitation.

I had a camera from Sigma that did this. Other users had it too. It ended up being fixed with a firmware update.

Problem here is that it seems most users don't have this happening. I think you are right: there was something wrong with the camera.

And, thanks for your detailed report. Maybe Fuji will read this thread sometime.

On my A5 on which I already installed a firmware update based on improvements from the XT100, the camera locks up when you turn it on and immediately press the Q quick menu button. You can only recover control by removing battery.

I tried it on my X-T100. No lockup. At least we don't have to worry about it in this particular case.

I turned on the camera and about 1 second later I pressed the Q button. No lockup.

Yep, but I only have two XF lenses, and only one of them has an aperture ring - so I just configure everything to work from the rear thumb wheel for consistency. Plus I'm also used to operating the aperture this way on the GX7... The only time I use an aperture ring is with the dumb MF lenses, then I don't have a choice.

With the better lens the camera feels and operates very nicely for me. Honestly I even like the the little rear dial thingy, really like it, sorry Gavin but I like it a lot and don’t have any issues, maybe in the winter but it’s summer here . I love the little soft screen button for af-s, af-c and mf too, such an improvement over that dial on the front

One real oddity I stumbled on in burst, 3/6 FPS, max iso is iso6400, what’s going on there, that is a bit limiting in some circumstance, not a biggy, but an oddity and I’d prefer the option of iso12800 for any subject not just single shots.

It's winter here, so dry skin season for me, which makes it awkward to operate at times. It's probably much the same as most Fujifilm bodies, except the X-A1 and X-E2 had nice raspy thumb wheels that were easy to operate in any conditions. I wish those characteristics were carried over to subsequent bodies...

I also have the better lens (18-55) attached at the moment, so I could use the aperture ring if I got desperate. I can't wait to see how they support the X-T100 with firmware over time.

I like the d-pad buttons because they are harder to hit by mistake. I haven't tried the "lock" feature yet.

Another thing I like is the off-on lever. It's much harder to turn on the camera by mistake. With my X-E1 I would frequently find it got powered up when I put it in the camera bag. Good thing I had it set up for auto power down after 5 minutes.

I like the thumb wheel but I can see that operating it in winter with gloves on might be quite a bit more trouble than the older design thumb wheel.

Generally, to me the camera seems a little bit too small. And I'm coming to the X-T100 from an X-E1. It's mostly psychological.

Unfortunately focus peaking for manual focus only works on photos, not video. I checked with Fuji UK to see if I'd missed a setting somewhere but they confirm it doesn't work on video recording. Disappointing, but they said they'd feed back to Fuji Japan in the hope of a firmware upgrade.
