Spyware is evovling and much more dangerous than viruses. Jeeez, I'd love to have a nice clean virus to get rid of! Spyware can hide, reinstall itself, prevent protection from being installed. Kind of like some bacteria - you through everything you have at it and it still comes back. I've spent weeks intalling updates, running multiple spyware cleaners, rebooting, unhijacking, cleaning out the registry, fixing start up entries, maybe using 8 different programs, and still have problems. Easier to prevent it from getting on your machine in the first place than removing it once it is there.

Only 99%. With my Windows XP computer I am 999999999% safe from viruses. I have never ever goten a viruse in 15 years of computer use nor will I ever. It is very simple to take precautions against viruses and paying 3 times more for a Mac isn't one of them. Windows is safe period.

Jim,

I kept getting Adware popups, especially in DPReview.

Spybot S&D found 9 more whatevers whereas MS beta found 1. Hopefully they're all gone now, I'll know tomorrow.

Thanks,
Hermit

product.

I reluctantly installed Microsoft's product, too (since it has the
added benefit of automatically checking for updates). Since it
doesn't seem to take much in the way of resources, I'll leave it
running as long as MS doesn't decide to charge for it (and Bill
Gates came out and said that they weren't going to at one point).

I'm glad to find out that it's helped someone. But, I'd still
suggest Spybot S&D on a regular basis, just to make sure nothing is
slipping through the cracks. ;-)
