Why no NEX Firmware update in the US site?

When I was in England and asked a Policewoman for directions I was enamored when she called me "Love". If I can get the UK version to use her voice I'm in for it. :)

you can get the "US" version by going to the US download link for V2 and changing "V2" to "V3" and 1007 to 1010. However, I think the file is the same as the UK one

youve done it and it works? that sounds just as strange as to why sony usa has yet to get the fw upgrade. lisa

I was so busy last week, I didn't have time to go look for the new firmware and just now got around to topping off the battery and tracking it down. I was certainly surprised to find it hadn't been released in the US yet but, thanks to the search function and this thread, I decided to give the UK version a try. Since I'm running Mac OS 10.6 on a 64-bit-architecture computer, I figured it was about a triple-whammy, but I went ahead with the download and upgrade, and it worked great. I believe the camera looks somewhat more urbane than it did previously as a result. ;> )

Sigh.... now if only I had time to try it out.

Unfortunately - contrary to belief, installing UK firmware doesn't make the camera weatherproof or meter better in dull weather - and thankfully No, it doesn't play "Rule Britannia" when you enter movie mode either.....

A Problem is only the pessimistic way of looking at a challenge

Hi
I´ve done the upgrade, mine is a NEX-3, bought in USA, and everything is OK.

But I´m starting to be anxious, cause there are differences beetween US and UK models movie modes.
Movie for US is 1280 - 60i and for UK is 1280- 50i.

Although my NEX-3 only makes 720, it works at 30 frames/sec, while UK model uses 720 25 frames/sec.
Funny that after upgrading to the UK firmware it continues using 30 frames/sec.

I´m starting to be concerned about the lack of the firmware om USA site due to one only issue:
The Sony firmware updater doesn´t allow writing on top of the same version.

I know cause I forgot to take out the battery after the upgrade to version 2 as recommended. Then, to be safe, I tried to write it again and the updater refused to do so due to being the same version.

So if there´s a change in the firmware on the US site I´ll not be able to upgrade, unless they change it´s version to 04.

Best Regards
Eduardo

When I bought the nex5, I fully intended to use it for video, but old habits die hard and I haven't even tried the mode. The nex is so little, I can easily slip my HD camcorder in the same case, so now it's always handy instead of languishing at home. So, for me, the video differences are a nonissue, but thanks for alerting us!

So any word yet on a US release? I was going to wait, but this is getting ridiculous. What on Earth could they be holding up a US release when they've had it out in other countries for some time now? Especially seeing how other versions actually work on the US one.

Probably going to just upgrade w/the UK version tomorrow.

Considering the frustration probably felt by many in the US, e.g., as expressed in the above post, has anyone had experience that would be cautionary to one tempted to use the v3 firmware sourced from the UK site?

i was cautious and wanted to wait but decided to go for it finally and it worked like a charm and camera works fine. rl

This is absurd now. Here's the response I got for my inquiry about WHY we have to wait in the US:

"We do not currently have a firmware update available in the U.S. for the NEX3. If one does become available it will be available for download at http://www.esupport.sony.com ."

Basically, "you'll get it when you get it." No explanation WHY other regions get it and we DON'T.

Looks like I'll be updating to the UK version then. And on my Mac no less :)

could it be the image size is set to 16:9. in setup when it is set that way the camera goes to 12mp. check it out. altho i cant recall if it was like that before the fw upgrade but it probably was. id say dont worry about it cause when sonyusa finally gets around to releasing the new fw it is gonna be exactly the same or we are all gonna be in trouble. i dont think thats gonna happen. rl
I used the Euro Firmware upgrade on my NEX5 and now the pic size only goes to 12MP.

Wow, there's a Mac version of the V3 firmware update!!!

Installing now!!!

yes, I just copied what people were doing before the general release, but on the US site.
It worked fine for me, now it's of no consequence.
