What 'tab' do you use to view these forums?

I developed a curiosity, and wanted to check on this - I admit I was fairly new to even realizing there were different viewing tabs on the forums, but still paid little attention to them, until I was following another thread in which some members seemed to have not even known about another thread on a topic...it dawned on me that they may have been viewing the forums in one of the specific tabs, and therefore never even saw a thread that may have been posted as another type.

So that leads me to ask if others here are aware of the different tabs, and what default viewing tab you use when browsing these forums.

At the top of each forum topic list, there are the following tabs:

ALL THREADS / DISCUSSIONS / QUESTIONS / USER REVIEWS / PHOTOS / POLLS

I have always viewed the forums in 'All threads' mode, and as I mentioned, didn't even know there were different tabs...I just never paid attention to them. When I started hitting some of those tabs to see what they were, I saw how they filtered out a lot of different posts - the 'discussions' tab dropped off all threads which were started as 'questions', 'photos', 'questions', etc...and so on.

So out of curiosity - do you always view the forums using the 'All Threads' as a default, and occasionally switch to one of the other tabs when looking for something specific in that category? Or do you use one of the other tabs as your default viewing mode?

Here's the catch-22 of course - I am posting this as a 'discussion' thread, so if anyone is viewing these forums in one of the other specific tabs, you won't even SEE this post!

Thank you for participating in my informal, curious question!

I come straight to the Nex forum at this link in my bookmarks: https://www.dpreview.com/forums/1042 and view using "All Threads"

After this if I have time for a browse use the forums Index to negociate the various forums.

After your post I now realise I only ever view using "All Threads"!

"All Threads" for me to.

Sounds like most of us are using the 'all threads' so far. I figured that would be the case - though I felt a little ignorant in not even noticing those other tabs until a few months ago. I was interested in how they work, but found them too limiting in that I would miss threads too often if I was just in one of the specific tabs. I may use them to quickly search for a particular type of thread, such as a question or photo thread - but even in those cases, it relies on the person who posted the thread having chosen the correct mode! I've posted 'questions' and 'photos' under the 'discussions' category for years as I never even knew when posting a new thread, you could choose the other categories.

In the end, the 'all threads' is the safest mode for me.

It saves you a lot of scrolling in many cases, i'm a bit amazed that you never paid attention to it Justin 😉😆😂, ah well we are never to old to discover things.

Like most of the others who've replied I use the "all threads" tab and didn't notice the other filters. I'm not sure I would necessarily trust the filters in any case. If I want to find something specific I use the search function.

You also need to think when you start a thread and use the below options/ selections , this will make a big difference to the effectiveness of the filters.

That's actually part of how I found out about the tabs. I didn't pay them any notice until one time when I was hitting the post button, and actually looked at the options - usually I just posted everything as 'discussion', but I noticed there was an option for 'share photos'...I hadn't ever noticed that before, so I tried it...then I wondered why there was a specific option for that. That's when I noticed the tabs!

My main worry was that others might also not have known there were different tabs, and what if they were viewing in one specific tab category? They might be missing dozens of posts of other types without even knowing. So I decided to find out if I was the only simpleton who didn't even notice the tab options - fortunately, I'm not alone and others also admitted they never took notice of those!

I use exactly the same procedure as ElFaron, starting from a shortcut on my desktop.

Always "All Threads". I have never had a desire to specifically filter to the various types of threads. I care more about seeing everything ordered by what has been updated most recently. Fortunately for me this is the default view.

noticed them and quickly forgot them. They might have been more useful before the forums were so fragmented. nowadays the posts on the main page stay for a really long time so there time to read everything I'm interested in without filtering

My browser always opens DPR with the "All" option, and I don't see a need to filter; however, I would like to filter out "Polls" as I find them particularly irritating.

Most of my interaction is via "Notifications", and I have rarely ventured beyond the first page of any forum.

I sometimes look at "Off Topic" for a laugh, and it's instructive to see who posts over there. Some from my "Ignore List" feature prominently.
