*VENDER Problem!

Really?

I can't believe how amped up YOU are! I'm Not Angry... I'm seriously dissapointed...
Could have fooled me. And several friends.
Further more... I NEVER SAID IT WAS B&H !!! So Cool your jets buddy.
Since you still haven't bothered to tell us who the vendor is, I can only assume. Perhaps Adorama, then?
Thirdly... I don't understand the sticker myself... THAT'S WHY I POSTED HERE!
You posted to vent at this mystery vendor before they even had a chance to deal with the situation. If you ordered from a reputable vendor, I am sure they will remedy the situation and explain the serial number sticker to you... when they open.

What is the point of raging about shipping damage and mystery stickers you don't understand? You still haven't identified the vendor or posted photos of what you're talking about.

Chris

Right... I don't understand why you're not getting this..

Vent yes.... And further I'm asking for advice which most of the posters gave me... Good advice.

You choose to admonish... Fine you're a Vender Advocate.

I'm not divulging the venders name precisely for that reason... I don't know what the sticker sitsuation is... They are closed, I'm freaking out... And I thought maybe, just maybe someone here DID know what it was and could explain it to me instead of me having high anxiety for 40hrs or so... 10k is a LOT of money... And AGAIN! NOT SHIPPING DAMAGE... READ BEFORE YOU CRITIZISE! Camera box was shipped damaged... No visiable damage to the outside of the box!

Thanks for all your help!

Tony B.

Could you post images of the box and damages? One of the label, numbers photoshopped out, would be great.

Change your quality setting before you start shooting.

FWIW, I too would be terribly disappointed if I received camera equipment in the condition as you described. I am not a pro and four months back I too purchased a Mark IV and a couple of lesser L lenses with the total bill coming to just over $8K. I had saved a very long time for this purchase since I am retired and this is going to last me a lot of years. I think for the pros, cameras and lenses are tools and a business expense so what if the boxes are dented and the camera may have been a return as long as it works. For me that is just not acceptable. I expect when I spend money that is very dear to me on new equipment what arrives will be just that, new equipment, and that it will arrive in a condition that tells me the vendor feels the same way. I was very lucky with my purchase. Everything on my order was well packaged in unopened boxes and everything so far has worked very well. I wish you the best in straightening out your problem and hope that you will eventually feel the same way about your purchase.

You are very kind...

we will find out very soon... It's late here 2:15am NY time. The stuff Is packed up
I never even looked at any of the equipment... I will be at there door in 8 hrs.

Thanks for your support.

Tony B.

Chris, I think that perhaps you are over-reacting here. Not naming the vendor seems like the more responsible approach here - we've all seen those obnoxious posts where a disappointed buyer slams the vendor in forums in the hope of "getting back" at them. It sure doesn't seem to me like this poster is doing that, and keeping the vendor name anonymous supports that idea.

While the OP's use of some excited language and ALL CAPS seems a bit breathless, let's get past that. The OP's concerns don't seem out of line to me, and I think any of us who received a shipment in the shape he describes would have at least some concerns. Now you may have gotten past this and would not be fazed by loose and open product boxes rolling around inside the shipping box, but that doesn't mean that every reasonable person would react the same way.

To the OP, I encourage you to try to not start out with your anger when you bring this to the attention of the vendor. First give them a chance to make it right - there is a good chance that they will, especially given the size of your order. (I wrote a bit about this in an earlier post.) At the same time, it would be a good idea to have some photographic evidence of what you found when you opened to box and to also contact the shipper to report this

And if the vendor offers you replace new products over the counter you should smile and say thank you and feel that you have been treated right in the wake of a mistake that any vendor/shipper could make.

Really seems to me like Chris is the calmer head prevailing here. OP's tone from the beginning seemed like a calling out disguised as a "WWYD" post. Albeit, he may seem overly calm about the situation, I can assure you that OP will get much more attentive service when he shows up at B&H than if he comes across like he's alluded to here.

We only have OP's side of the story, and we are obviously missing all the relevant info that goes along with his story. Instead of a bunch of you guys going "hell yea.... tell the store to kiss your ass", why not give him constructive advice.

I'm sure we'll get an update of the next transaction. Why don't we just stay tuned and wait for his resolution.

I'll just use this opportunity to say that, for years, I bought virtually all my stuff from B&H. Never really had any problems. About a year ago, however, we had need for some stuff and my better half looked at Adorama. Ok, I thought... we'll try them.

Our first experience was so good, we've stayed with them ever since. Adorama has been FIRST RATE. Shipping in particular is always extremely tight. No matter what we get, it seems like their packers must be Tetris experts, or something, because the boxes are always perfectly fitted and then reinforced with air packs. After thousands of $$, every thing we've purchased has demonstrated an amazing attention to detail. On the one opportunity that WE ordered the wrong thing, phone support was there to get the exchange made quickly. And, by the way, we always go for their free shipping option. Frankly, I don't see how they do it.

I hope your situation gets resolved. Yep, you spent a lot of dough there and got some really amazing stuff. Those kind of dollars deserve no less attention to detail than I get when simply ordering a two hundred dollar studio light.
With the help of everyone here I decided to Stay with Canon as I have been for 10 years... I posted a thread asking to see some samples from everyone with a 1D mk IV. I decided to get Updated models of all my L Glass also, I moved them rather quickly, thus finding myself almost starting from scratch with only 2 lenses left and 2 flash units... I saw this as an opportunity to jump ship to a Nikon D3S and had to decide... What I saw here swayed me to stay on board, and I wanted to say thank you to all that posted.

No to the Crux of the matter... I shopped around, and decided to lay down my hard earned cash at a "Certain" establishment. $10,000.00 !!!

I bought the farm, A:

EOS 1D Mk IV
EF 24-70mm f2.8 L
EF 16-35mm f2.8 L II
EF 70-200mm f2.8 L IS II
Sandisk 16gb Exreme Pro UDMA 6 CF card.

I anxiously awaited the package staying home all day, and repeatedly pressing the refesh button online as I was logging on to UPS tracking, and listening for the truck

I had planned taking focus tests for the camera & lenes all Weekend... When It came I was instantly destroyed when I opened it... Everything Thrown into the box with (Single Ply) with NO Padding on 4 Sides one being the Bottom. While No visable damage was evident outside, The 1D box was crushed on 1 side and had a Big Dent in the other, and one of the lenses the 70-200 L IS II box was opened, and the contents spilled out into the outer box... I was Furiated to TEARS... I had told the saleman I was worried about packing and of course he assured me that the packing would be top notch!

I would not expect ANYTHING of value to be packed this Poorly, Let alone something delicate that costed $10,000.00 !!! of the money I had saved for this for Years!

Well this being Friday Night, and them being closed Saturday that is not much I can do about it right now except sit and calm down and wait, and with my Nature calming down is a good thing... Especially for them.

Now I have not touched the contents except for inspecting the product boxes and writing down serial #'s... What caught my Attention was the 1D box had been Re-Labeled! and you can read the original # on the box through the new label... It was slightly newer on the original box, and the new label was a slightly Lower # meaning the New Label put on top was OLDER??

Now I'm not posting their Name just yet cause I want to see what the outcome is on Sunday Morning... Needless to say I will be there with Bells ON!

At first my Reaction was get all new equipment with Higher Numbers... But on considering... I'm thinking of just getting my money back now, as I feel I don't know If I can trust them, with my Weekend being ruined I have a bad taste in my moth...

Your Thoughts On This Matter, and also what you think about the Label Sitsuation Please...

Thank You,

Tony B

i dont get why people start these kinds of threads without naming the vendor .. are theyworied about liability ... or what

Until the problem is resolved (or not resolved) it seems like the responsible thing to not identify the vendor. Especially given the way that "stories" spread and morph in forums like this, a bit of reticence can be a fair thing for both parties.

I prefer this to the folks who start a thread in forums like this as a way to get back at vendor X for their alleged shortcomings.

(Having once made the mistake, myself, of posting such a "story" about a vendor I dealt with, only to discover later that a) I was wrong and b) the vendor treated me well in the aftermath, and c) it was necessary and embarrassing for me to post my public apology and retraction at my web site in the aftermath... ;-)

... I think that not naming the vendor right away may be the diplomatic thing to do.)

Let's hope that the outcome is good for our OP when he contacts the vendor. And if he hasn't I'll concur with those who suggest that he not start out with an accusation or anger - give the vendor a chance to make it right first.

ALL...

Thanks to those of you that had my back, and gave really good advice... I'm grateful...

I'm happy to report... I could not have had a better result.

Upon getting there I talked to my salesman... And He was shocked, and told me to please bring the box in! He and the Manger were both in shock, and the saleman said to the mgr... "And This Is A Ten Thousand Dollar Sale!"

They took me in the Warehouse and showed me the custom machinery they have that makes indistructable Bubble wrap that each item was supposed to be wrapped with... the showed me how other orders were packed... NOTHING LIKE MINE!! They Guy who packed the order is to be put on probation, and possible terminated

They Apoligized and said "ANYTHING YOU WANT" You want All New Stuff? You want your money back? You name it.

I told them I wanted to look at some other copies of what I bought... They Brought out 3) 1D mk 4's... 3) 70-200 2.8L IS II's, 3) 24-70 f/2.8 L's, and 3) 16-35 f/2.8 L II's!

They told me open them look at them mix and match them... And take whichever ones you are happy with... THEY TREATED ME LIKE A KING!!!

They even showed me in the warehouse where each item was stored...

THE STICKER

This is why I did not want to post their name until I found out what was going on!

All the 1D boxes had these exactly the same... In my confusion and upsetness I didn't realize I was looking at the ITEM CODE... NOT THE SERIAL #!!!

The Serial # is Small Under the UPC code... You can tell by matching it with the warranty card... DUH!!!! So this was my mistake... They are all completely legit. Factory packed and brand new.

After I took all the stuff I selected.. THEY TOOK ANOTHER $100 OFF WHAT WAS ALREADY THE LOWEST PRICE I FOUND!!

I am thrilled how I was treated, and how they handled the whole thing, And I would recommend them whole heartedly to friends and family alike...

My Salesmans Name was IKE, and he's the nicest guy ever... Now I have no problem revealing who they are.

The Store Was:
ABE'S OF MAINE! EDISION, NJ!

They will have all my business from now on! I have have not had much time to test but I did snap a few shots with the 24-70 f/2.8 L on... And inital results are Stunning... AF is absurdly quick even in Low Light.. So fast it's hard to catch which AF point was used! Also I shot a 2.8 so I had a narrow DOF, and picture of my cat's bridge of nose was tack sharp exactly where it locked, and above and below blurred so the camera and lens is not BF or FF, and I shot 1/25th hand Held and got a pretty good shot, and ISO 800 Was Smooth as Butter with No PP!

I'M THRILLED... Just have to test the other lenses now. I will try and get a photo of this shot up later!

Thank Guys!

Tony B.

Well done, I'm glad it worked out for you. The vendor sounds like they were both surprised and sincere in correcting the issues. Thanks for the follow up post.

Best regards,
Doug

Sounds like a great outcome... and your story about the serial number mistake is a perfect example of the issue I wrote about it my message a couple higher than yours... and issue that caused me personal embarrassment and taught me to be slower to accuse the dealer of poor behavior.

Take care,

Dan

For Tony....

I commend you for having enough class not to overreact and unfairly trash a good vendor, without giving them a chance to remedy it.

It's clear to see that patience pays off. And at the same time, if they had not made it right you would not have lost anything by giving them a fair chance.

I'm so tried of reading threads of other people trashing vendors for stuff that more often than not, ends up being a misunderstanding or an error on the purchaser's part.

Let me guess - closed Saturdays but open Sundays and have a reputation for their bad packaging that's been written about here on these forums over the years. Might it be BHPhotovideo?
Read on. Apparently your suspicion is unfounded. Have a nice day. You too johnlovesmaine. Not nice to cast such aspersions absent ALL evidence.
