to the back of the gallery, TWICE already.

Whoever is having their fun, must have either a WILD jealousy streak against me or, is just plain out to "get me" in this challenge. Trying to make me look like a "bad guy"

Sorry folks, this is getting tiresome so, I'm not moving my images, just so Mr. / Mrs. Trouble can move them yet again.

corrected end date of 9am Wednesday EST (New York) 11th August

Challenge 73 before reading further...

Thank you Mike for your consummate hosting of Challenge 73. Hands
and Feet was a great theme to work with. It was open enough to
allow everyone to participate and I’d like to keep that vibe going
with the theme for this next Challenge.

Challenge 74 Assignment: Metal

Challenge 74 is about Metal in all its multifarious guises. Metal
is all around us from the cutlery we eat with everyday to the
sculptures that adorn public parks. I’m assuming each of us will
have contact with metal at some stage of our day so everyone should
be able to participate. Creativity is highly encouraged so do
whatever it is you do to get those creative juices flowing and dive
in.

This Challenge should above all be an adventure with an emphasis on
enjoying the ride. If you learn something along the way then please
consider that a wonderful bonus. Join in and give it a go –
everyone is very welcome to participate.

Post processing can be used to get the most out of your shots. Like
always, voters will decide the best photos to represent the theme
at the end of the Challenge period.

Challenge 74 begins at 9am EST (New York time) on Friday, July
30th, 2004. I should have the galleries set up within the next 24
hours. You will have two full weekends to take pictures.

GUIDELINES

These guidelines are meant to help things run smoothly for all...
and to serve as a handy reference to answer common questions.
Thanks for reading all this stuff again:
  • Up to three(3) images are allowed in each of the two galleries
(Eligible and Exhibition). Each photographer can choose whether to
enter one or more photos per gallery. This should generally
accommodate everyone's personal style and approach to the
challenges...whatever works best to make the challenge more fun for
you.
  • You can enter photos anonymously if you want also. If you do,
please send me an email indicating your identity for any anonymous
entries. My address is in my forum profile.
  • Those who prefer to have critiques of their photos be more
"critical", feel free to mark the image title with an asterisk ( ).
  • Please put your name(identity choice) and a unique title on each
of your image thumbnails. It really helps to keep voting problem
issues to a minimum.
  • Please resize your images to no larger than 800 pixels on the
longest side before uploading to pBase... can be larger if a
panoramic image. This cuts down on too much usage, and it helps to
preserve the quality of your image upload for best viewing.
  • Please don't move images around in the galleries...respect
first-come-first-serve. If you alter an image in any way, please
indicate that a change was made to the original when reposting it.
You can repost an image into its original spot if it's the same
image (that's just been altered). Any new images should be placed
at the end of the gallery. This should avoid any confusion...and
everyone will be treated equally.
  • Please keep your questions and concerns posted in this thread for
best response. One of us will address them as soon as possible.
  • Challenge time period will run from 9am EST (New York time) on
Friday, July 30th, 2004 and will end at 9am EST on Wednesday,
August 11th, 2004.. Universal time tables will be posted in the
galleries...a big thanks to Mike Fitzgerald for always providing
these. A separate voting thread will be posted shortly after the
end of the Challenge period.
  • Eligible images must be taken with a Sony digital camera...&
within the challenge time period. The winner of this gallery will
host the next Challenge. All entries should include a date
indicating when the photo was taken..."exif" data attached would be
ideal(if available). "Exif" data is a big help to a lot of viewers
for a variety of reasons. If the "exif" data is not preserved, try
writing it into your caption (by referring to the original photo's
"exif" data that should be available before doing any photo
processing). At the least, please include the date the photo was
taken on all the eligible photos. This is a popular request...so
I'm passing along your requests here. THANKS, everybody, for your
friendly cooperation.
  • Exhibition images can be obtained with any camera at any time. If
you do not want to host the next Challenge, this is the gallery you
should post your images to.
  • Those not familiar with uploading images to pbase can view this
link for instructions: http://www.pbase.com/stfchallenge/howto
  • Remember, the login name to pbase is "stfchallenge"; and the
password is "stfpost".
  • Here’s a link to the stfchallenge galleries page:
http://www.pbase.com/stfchallenge/root

I'm really looking forward to seeing what creative ideas you come
up with.

Simon.

Photography allows me the opportunity to share what I see through my viewfinder, with those who can apprecaite the beauty of the world around us.

the look is now white pages instead of black. more shenanigans?
I have requested activity logs for the previous two weeks from the
owner of PBase.

I was going to contact the person directly to save them the
embarrassment of having their details plastered over the internet
but this continuing behaviour has me thinking I should just post
the results here.

It's only a matter of time before the identity of the person is
known. If you are reading this, stop messing with the STF Challenge
Galleries now and save yourself further trouble.

To all the rest of you - my deepest apologies that you should have
to endure such childish and unwanted behaviour. It's been uncalled
for and is, I would say, grounds for legal action should certain
affected parties here wish to pursue such avenues.

Again, sorry to those of you affected by this unfortunate behaviour.

Regards,
Simon Bennett.

that's weird - I just logged in as stfchallenge, and the galleries were white, and very, very slow. I logged back out, and they were normal, then I logged back in as stfchallenge, and the were white again.

I hope it's not more shenanigans - maybe it's because the IP addresses are now being looked at.

of the sort that happens from time to time. Personal galleries are affected too. Don't worry -- it'll pass.

I have changed the password to the STF Challenge galleries on PBase. Hopefully this will be a temporary measure.

If you would like to submit an entry to the current Challenge - please email the entry to:

[email protected]

... and include the following information:

Image Name: (title for entry)
Photographer: (your name)
Gallery: (eligible or exhibition)
Camera: (sony , canon et cetera)
Text: (blurb added to image in gallery)

The images will be moved back to where they should be and templating restored.

It's unfortunate that measures such as this are required but such is life.

My apologies for the disruption.

Please feel free to email me or pose questions here.

There will be a review thread started after the Challenge to discuss what went right, what went wrong, and how we can make the Challenge better for future participants.

Regards,
Simon.

Simon,

Sorry to see this happen to you. Kudos to you for taking on the extra work and seeing that the remaining days/hours of the challenge run as smoothly as possible.

Michael

What a PIA to have to have all this nonsense....

This is the first challenge I have missed I think since I began posting on the forum. What a shame that such childish behavior transpires! I like the idea of sending a entry to the host and only the host can access the page...that ought to be kept in tact for all future challenges...I know it creates much more work on part of the host...maybe there are people out there on the forum who would volunteer on a rotating basis to maintain the challenge page, rather than the host???

I look forward to being in the next one...just had too much going for this one : ( Thanks to all of you who stay on top of the page! and keep our challenges alive!

This has done the rounds but it still makes me smile...
Likewise, as does this account I've also posted before. Apocryphal? Maybe... maybe not; I really don't know. But it could very easily happen. Kids can be very good lateral thinkers before we start "educating" them with preconceptions and stereotypes.

The story goes that a group of up-to-the-minute child psychologists, wishing to test the imaginations of a class of pre-schoolers, gave each of them a cake of soap and a paring knife, and bade them carve the soap to represent whatever object took their fancy.

A proliferation of anticipated shapes resulted -- dolls, fire engines, farm animals and so forth... All except for one youngster who methodically shaved the soap into a neat pile of fine slivers.

The shrinks were fascinated -- this was Deep Stuff indeed... They brainstormed it for a day, only to remain utterly baffled as to the hidden, true inner meaning. Finally, reluctantly admitting defeat, they were forced to ask the child (who appeared normal, happy and well adjusted) to explain.

The child, bemused by all the attention, simply shrugged and answered "Soap Flakes!"

Simon,

Thanks for doing a fine job as host and I'm sorry that it got to be so "interesting". Thanks again for a wonderful challenge.
