Strange xt2 problem

Jerry,

I'm having same problem. Downloaded the app and it shows up under "Devices" but never opens. When I connect my X-T2 I get a message on the Mac that I need to configure "PC Connection Mode" on camera which I've tried the different options with no success.

Do you get the "X-Acquire" app to open on your Mac?

Seems this isn't quite ready for prime time.

Bob

Edit;

The X-Acquire app shows up under devices on my Mac but I can't eject it or even force an eject. I wanted to trash it and start over but now that doesn't appear to be an option.
Still getting nowhere with this. The X-Acquire app shows as an icon in the bar at the top of the screen and opens when you click on its icon after starting the app. However, the only options I get are "Preferences" and "About...", that's it. The Backup and Restore menu items are grayed out and unavailable. Connection setting in the camera is set to "USB RAW Conv./Backup Restore.

Yeah, not ready for prime time pretty well describes it, or at the very least, way under documented. Frustrating.

Ron,

Excellent!

Followed exactly the different steps, then worked perfectly

Many many many thx for excellent help.

Since IMHO the way to go is far from obvious I would suggest you post the different steps in a dedicated thread as a memory for all of us

Again thx

Bob

I'm glad it worked for you, but it seems that others are still having problems. I can only think of the USB-3 cable as a possible problem. I know I thought I had mine plugged in, but it really wasn't in securely enough. That is why I mentioned having to be sure the connector is inserted firmly. I used one that normally goes to my USB-3 card reader.

The end of the cable looks like this:

Very different from the USB 2 plug that goes into the X-Pro2 jack - USB 3 adds the segment on the left to the USB 2 legacy portion retained on the right.

I've had success with the X-Pro2 on Windows 7. Maybe Fuji needs to do some tests on X Acquire with USB 3 and Mac.

I just used USB2 cable

Yes, please. I've given up in utter frustration. I get a blinking light on the camera but the backup and restore menu items in the Acquire app are still grayed out. Would sure like to get this working. BTW, I've tried connecting both via wire and wirelessly. No bueno either way. [sigh]

10 highly valuable bonus Mod points for anyone who can figure this one out. Curious if others are seeing the same thing.

...Hooked up the camera to the USB port but the Acquire app never sees it...
In the Tools menu group, did you go into the PC CONNECTION MODE menu? If it is set to USB CARD READER, Acquire will report "no camera"; this choice is for when you plug in a USB cable and use Windows or Fuji FInePix to download image files. If however it is set to BACKUP/RESTORE..., then Acquire should see the camera and let you back up your settings.
But for wireless the choice on the PC CONNECTION MODE menu is not BACKUP/RESTORE. Instead, what worked for me was:

1. PC CONNECTION MODE | WIRELESS TETHERED SHOOTING FIXED
2. Start X Acquire
3. Watch the tray at the right of the Windows 7 taskbar until the X Acquire icon goes from gray to blue
4. Click on the icon and backup or restore as desired

Finally managed to get the menu items in the Acquire app to show up and performed the backup. Only issue is that it's not really possible to tell whether it actually worked or not (it created the file almost instantly, which seemed just a bit suspicious to me). File size is 3.8KB. Can anyone confirm if their backups are yielding a similar file size?

Yeah, I know... overly paranoid. :-)
Doesn't look like an unexpected size for something like this. It will be only instructions like 'set item 1234 to abc'.

The real test would of course be to try a restore. Would be something like this: change one obvious setting [like image quality], run the restore [and hope it does not brick the camera] and look at that setting

Doesn't even have to be that long, its probably just a table with an item id and the value for the current setting. All in binary and very compact and I would expect a save to be near instantaneous.

I got excatly the same my file is 4K with excat refrence in terms of camera and date creation the restore file

Mine is exactly 3868 bytes 4k on disk

according to Fuji Acquire 1.7 is compatible with XT1 last Fw for backup

Just check in the menu if you can get connection according to the user guide of Fuji

User Guide 6
- Backup / Restoring Camera Setting 1. Follow the Owner's Manual or New Feature Guide instruction and select the Backup/Restore mode (USB RAW CONV. / BACKUP RESTORE)

see:

Camera settings are stored in memory that requires power, not much power but not zero either. That power comes from a small rechargeable battery which gets its charge from the main camera battery. If the main camera battery is dead or missing then the power to the memory will eventually fail (about 2 weeks apparently) and you will have effectively performed a factory reset of the camera.
I was not aware of this. Glad to know. I leave my battery in my camera and it is an OEM, but am aware of the dangers of doing so. It is probably best to remove battery from camera when not in use.

I will add that in 11-12 years of shooting digital, I have never had an OEM battery swell or explode on me.
