I've grouped some other pictures on the theme so lonely but this time with a more happy feelig in them (in my opinion). My interest in photographing people is still growing and soon I will try to make series to capture emotions or I must say to illustrate emotions as what is seen in a picture is only a split of a second and can give a complelely other expression that what was happening in reality. Always interesting to know which you prefer as in many series I see that there are many differences. Maybe I will post a part 3 on the theme so lonely but then focussing on animals, they can feel also very lonely and express it very well. Hope you enjoy these pictures.

With very kind regards,

Dirk

Wonderful captures. These images truly capture one aspect of the human experience. Great work.

Hi Dirk,

Being lonely and being alone is very different. Your 2 posts show this. I think the little girl is probably the best image for being alone.

Hi Dirk

Once again, all the images in this series are stunning. I very much enjoy your work.

My favourite is the little girl, but am again drawn to that old duy - his eyes are remarkable. Quite a subject for portraits - is he a friend?

Thanks..

Matt.

HI Morris,

Thanks for pointing to the difference in the words, I'm afraid that I'm not fully feeling the differences in the English language but I know that it's very different. Think that some 'alone' ones where posted in the 'lonely' post.

Hi Shouchen,

Me to, I was doing a test in photographing people with a 600mm Nikkor and focussing manually, not simple with such a huge lens but I like the very shallow dof. Made a small series of that little girl. Being at a serious distance helps in not interupting scenes, people don't know what you are focussing on or even don't see you.

With very kind regards,

Dirk

hello Dirk
A very good excersise to put the photos in series following a
concept. great series here, I have seen almost all in the past and
is enjoyable to see them again in a new dimension. Love specially
that incredible DOF of the 600 mm shots.
have a nice weekend

Hi Martin Miguel,

You have a very good memory (also referred to the tunnel in my first post recently). I will also try to find time to use the 600mm again for shooting people as I also love the very shallow dof and bokeh of that lens but it's diffcult as I have to focus manualy and no way to use it hand held (really to big and heavy).

Dirk

Hi Syckklam,

Thanks very much and I also love the first one, it was a test on using a 600mm for people shots and it's quite difficult, I had to focus manualy, measure the light manualy and needed a heavy tripod. Here are some other ones of that little girl.

Hi Vera,

Thaknks very much and I think that the grapes where in plastic (not sure, the distance was to big), she walked there a long time with those grapes. In a few weeks I will start selecting my swan pictures, have thousands of them now and many action shots and post some here.

Hi Matt,

Thanks so much for your encouraging words and yes he's a subjects for pictures and have eyes full of life. He's not a friend, I met him on the street and talked to him and continued making pictures of them, he acted so naturaly as if he even didn't noticed that I was photographing him like a maniac (even on my knees), he continued telling me about his life etc.. A very kind man. Here are two more of him (I've seen him a few times, he lives near to the building where I was a few times for photographing musicians):

Hi Dirk, I did not yet see your other series lonely but I will go and find them after this. I have to say that I like all these pictures a lot especially for your use of space in many of them, many are exquisite for me partly because I am only just learning that I dont have to fill the frame :-) ...... but you know I actually dont get the "lonely" feeling from these images .. I will pop some comments from what I see next to each of them if I can ...
above ... woolly ... wrapped up ... winter warm light .. cosy perhaps . but those look like pyjama bottoms like my son has so its an unusual image for me .. pyjamas, grapes, wrapped up and I think sunset light ..
foggy or bright .. joy .. shouting ... whistle of the wind ... this woman does not look like she is on her own to me ... to my eye there are others behind her out of the frame, she has just got there first .. perhaps she is shouting "come on" to the people behind her ...
I love this picture because of the great background and that red cap standing out .. and the frizbee also to the right ... however unless you clone out the frisbee Dirk ... then its obvious he is not alone .. :-) .. he just missed his catch ( by the way I may well be completely mistaken about it being a frizbee ) anyhow thats what I perceive .. he just missed catching it and I think someone else had thrown it .
this one is perhaps lonely .. which one though is lonely? the statue asking why does she not talk to me or the person looking out to sea ? its not clear to me, perhaps they both are
very fun this but as soon as she saw you its not lonely anymore because she is now "there - with you" if you had her before I think it could have been lonely ... but now its for me definately " interaction with a :-) " or body language
this is a face that has smiled a lot, look at those laughter lines and the piercing clear eyes .. I remember series of pictures of this man and he always looked full of brightness ..
its possible this guy is lonely but I think he is caught up in some celebrity gossip or other .. some tittle tattle of some kind in the magazine and is lost to the world for the moment .. daydream .. own little world
stunning .. lovelly image this one ... "luminoscity"
the gaze of the smaller hunter :-)
this is a lovelly light picture .. I think I should be hearing clip clip .... clip clip as he walks across the hard light floor ... in the empty room ..... oh no who stole all the pictures !! :-)
thinking "outside the box" ...... grin there used to be someone who was always urging people to do that in here do you remember, very amusing image that one ..

Great to see this set of images Dirk, I always enjoy your pictures, hope that my comments do not offend in any way but I do think there is too much joy in many of them for there also to be lonelyness.

Hi Dirk,

This is a lovely set of images though I agree with others that I don't find the gut-wrenching emotion of loneliness in them. Each image is a pearl unto itself and there are three that I particularly like. The first image has the greatest charm of all....the capture of the little girl in mid-step with the arms out as if to balance on the trolly track is exceptional. The man on the park bench I recognize from your archive and it's one of my all time favorites...I especially like the eyeglasses on the bench and the red socks.I also like the wide angle perspective, the simplicity and the clean muted colors of the image of the young man with the backpack.

The mental image I have of loneliness is of a sad-faced child standing alone, apart from a group of other children having fun playing together.
It's good to see your work again, Dirk.

Best regards,
Jim
