These days computers are so fast that SPP runs quite readily. I recently (a couple of months ago) bought a new Dell notebook computer at Best Buy for $400. It's got an i5 processor (probably dual-core), with 8 GB of RAM and a 256 GB SSD. It's a surprisingly capable 15" computer, which is pretty thin, and has o.k. battery life. Today's iPads are apparently pretty powerful too, with the iPad Pro having a processor that is much more powerful than the one in this new computer. Yesterday I read about a phone from Asus which has 18 GB of RAM! I thought WOW! That's more than twice what my new computer has. I bet the processor in that thing is ridiculously powerful, compared to the old i5 in my notebook computer too.

All this leads me to think that iOS and Android devices are certainly powerful enough to run SPP today. All that Sigma needs to do is port it over to those operating systems, which are basically the same as Mac OS anyway. (They're all just versions of Linux or Unix.) Sure, they'd have to make the program friendly to touch screen use, but my computer has a touch screen, and SPP still works fine.

So is it about time Sigma makes a version of SPP that will work with our tablets and phones? I wouldn't mind being able to process my Sigma raw files with my smartphone, though I probably wouldn't do it very often. Tethering might be a different story though. I could see myself using a tablet to tether.
