S2 vs. F10 comparisons

The S2 looks like the clear winner here. S2 images are more detailed and I see more noise in the F10 images. Thanks for the comparison.

You need to put the ISO into the names of the S2 images since the ISO isn't in the EXIF in the normal place (it is in there, by the way).

R u sure abt that? This comparison is obviously in favor to the S2. I think all the shots of the S2 uses a lower equivalent ISO rating.

For example, the S2 shot:
1/60s f2.7

and the F10 shot:
1/180s f2.8
http://www.pbase.com/rcorrell/image/44095079

The shutter speed of the F10 is close to 2 stops faster. That means the equvalent ISO rating is ard 2 stops faster. And tats a lot. Its like comparing the S2's ISO 100 to F10's ISO 400 (well almost).

I'm very sure with the S2, u can manually dial in the shutter speed and aperture to match the F10's. Unless well, u're trying to make the S2 look better.

I think there is definitely something wrong with the comparison. F10 was tested by Simon as having resolution surpass all 7MPs, and rivals to his quality benchmark - 8MP Oly 8080. It is very doubtful that S2, being the 5MPer, will be any exception.

You shall post the original F10 pics with EXIF intacts so that we can understand better. It looks to me that the F10 shots all aren't in focus and being overexposed badly. And then, comparing ISO200 vs ISO50 is not scientific enough.

I have a F10 too , and to my surprise it's crispness and sharpness easily beat my FZ20, easily visible in 100% crop. Again, FZ20 has slight lead in quality to S2, this just adds more doubt to me.

I agree wif u. The F10 beats the 7MP SD500 in the resolution chart test. The S2 dun even come close.

The reason that the S2 looks better is because of the difference in equivalent ISO ratings.

Plus the threadstarter used the Chrome mode on the F10, which increases the saturation and contrast.

This test is definitely invalid.

It's more interesting to see how one can post a so called "comparison" with not in focus and badly blown out pics. The ISO difference doesn't me, we all know that F10 ISO400 would eat S2's ISO50 for breakfast.

um, I SHALL do what for you sir?

look General Windwind -- i have no intentional bias -- I own both of them -- I set them basically on AUTO and fired away -- i am no pro -- maybe i shud have pointed that out -- i dont have the time, knowledge or interest in being that scientific -- sorry, no more orders being taken today, sir

I don't mean to seem critical but If you are just going to set them both on auto and shoot away and post side by sides without checking the data, it's not much help to anyone. Sorry again If this sounds to critical.

Hi rick. U have demostrated the weakness of the F10 - the Auto setting.

The F10 is biased towards higher ISO in order to achieve a high shutter speed. U can see that in the comparison, the F10 has a higher shutter speed than the S2 in ALL cases.

In fact, the F10 will choose ISO 800 under all low light condition in Auto.

I appreciate ur effort, but stating that u used the same settings for both cameras is misleading. U should have stated u used Auto setting for both camera instead.

u are correct -- i shud have said that

if its a weakness for the F10 outside (which i dont agree with ,its not that bad but whatever) it is certainly a strength inside -- the ISO 800 and 1600 shots in low light are incredible -- for shots with no flash at conferences, parties, etc it is perfect for my use

well tell me -- since the F10 cant be adjusted to lower ISOs, why should i crank the S2 up to higher ISOs one wouldnt use?

Have you done much indoor shooting?

I found the shutter speed to go too slow for parites and functions with no flash at ISO 800, making all subjects come out blurry.

I really wish the F10 had some manual adjustments, it would then become a fantastic camera.

i have used a Z1 at conferences -- the shots were great at ISO 800

the F10 will be even better @ ISO 1600

One gripe of mine about the S1/S2 is that they only go up to what, ISO 200 automatically no matter how dark? I am sure there's lots of good reasons -- but it would be nice to have a setting that would tell it to go to 400 on its own

The F10 goes to 1600 on its own if on Manual or Natural settings -- love it

my bad bigtime -- sorry -- i forgot that

but then why do you say the F10 can't be adjusted? It has metering choices (Z1 doesnt), the Color styles and the scene selectors -- is it just the Sharpening ,Contrast and Saturation that is so badly missing to people? agree that i also like those too but so far doesnt seem like a big deal

thanks -- sorry again for my memory on the ISO adjust from 80-1600
